sparky29 Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I have just met somebody who is part ex-ing a 03 plate manual Galaxy (nearly 53 - registered 31 July 03) 1.9TDI Ghia 130 PS with 53K, dealer serviced and cam belt changed at 40k. They are after Quote
searcher Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Sounds a fair price to me.Ive had a 115 Galaxy and now an Alhambra but have never driven a 130 to compare.Im not 100% sure but i think they both have the same torque.I cant see that 15bhp is gonna make a load of difference to be honest but no doubt someone with a 130 will be along soon to tell you its the best thing since sliced bread, Quote
gregers Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 only trouble with buying privately is no warranty, but as you could be getting it for a lot less then a dealer, then it sounds like a good deal, and you could but your own.just 1 question wonder why the cam belt was changed at 40k and not 60k,as i think my 1 is slightly older then the one your interested in and fords confirmed and proved with a receipt that mine had been changed at 60k.iirc there has been posts on the difference between the 2,do a search and see what comes up. sparky29 Posted March 7, 2008 Author Report Posted March 7, 2008 (edited) Thanks for your replies. Correct me if I'm wrong, I read somewhere, probably on this forum that originally cam belts were supposed to be changed at 60k but Ford or Volkswagon changed their minds after some failures and recommended after 40k for the first change and every 60k after that. Edit: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=15653 - cam belt change interval I'm living in a small town in Gloucestershire where there is a lot of inbreeding and everybody knows everybodys business. I was picking up the kids from school and one of the mums knew that I was looking out for a Galaxy and also knew that someone else was trading one in. The man selling it is a decent and honest bloke and the car has been well maintained. He has had no problems with it whatsoeverand that is why he is getting his fourth one. I'm not worried about not having a warranty because it has been well looked after. He has got a few bob and will probably take Edited March 7, 2008 by sparky29 Quote
gregers Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 if you can get it for that, then go for it.yes there has been various discussions on cam belts over the years but the consensus seems to be that there was a change over on the 03 year, there has even been a post this week where the poster was phoned by the dealer(fords)to be told the belt needed changing at 40k,and he politely told them it was 60k,at the end of the day the belt has been changed so peace of mind, just thought id ask the question why it had been changed,if i had another 7k id but it <_ :> Quote
sparky29 Posted March 9, 2008 Author Report Posted March 9, 2008 I had a look at the car today. The front tyres have been replaced recently. The only extra in addition to the Ghia spec was the built in car seats, which I need. It also has the CD multichanger but I don't know if that is standard or not. The car has one small ding on the door from a car park and is otherwise in excellent condition for a 4 1/2 year old car. The only thing I could find wrong with it is the reversing sensor beeps intermittently when the sensors are turned on. I'm not too worried about that though. Well I took the plunge and parted with Quote
searcher Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 Nice one. Sounds like you got a good deal there.I used to have a Ghia Gal and loved it.Chances are its just a dodgy parking sensor and whilst pricey for what they are its an easy fix. Quote
