mint Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 Has anyone had a problem with any of the doors dropping and therefore not closing properly? I have just taken my Gal to a local mechanic and he says it could be about 3 hours work as the door pins are a nightmare to replace. Jase. Quote
seatkid Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 The passenger door dropped slightly on my 96 Alhambra, when I took it to the dealer the body shop manager explained that there is no adjustment on the doors as the hinges are welded and the the only adjustment is by physically pulling the door up (or down). He then demonstrated the technique, two hands under the bottom door corner and give a good heave and voila, door adjusted - no charge! :lol: Quote

italiastar Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 Doesnt it drop again? I suppose if it does you pull it up again. One of my rear doors seems to have this problem as I have to slam it harder than the others, and it raises when if closes. It's been like this from new and I was going to tell the dealer - by the sound of it I should do it myself. My wife's golf has the same problem - obviously a VW feature - it is 11 years old though. rwtomkins Posted February 12, 2004 Report Posted February 12, 2004 that's funny, italiastar, i've had exactly the same problem with my Gal from new. the rear N/S door is much harder to close than the others and i always end having to slam it twice to close it. i've never bothered mentioning it on this forum because it seemed too trivial, but i asked the dealer to look at it on the first service a couple of months ago. it came back exactly the same. if anyone knows how to fix this, i'd like to know. i don't think it's out of alignment but i'll have a close look this weekend and perhaps try giving it a lift. Guest seatalhambra Posted March 21, 2004 Report Posted March 21, 2004 I have had problems with the rear pass door not shutting properly after parking up with door open and a lorry passing buffetting the door, 2nd time high winds catchin g the door. My seat dealer 'fixed ' this by belting the hinges with wood baulk and a lump hammer doing a poor job. Feeling i could do better i opened the door, put a wedge of about 1/4" by 1*1steel in the lower hinge gap and gently shutting the door on it. This did the trick after a bit of experimentation pulls the door pillar body panel out a bit to where it should be. Door aligns properly and shuts. Today with strong winds the same thing happened and sorted the problem in 5 mins. Access is best if you approach from the opened drivers door and i used a copper strip 9" long by 1" taping the wedge to the end of it to hold it in the right place without trapping the fingers. Problem seems to be to long door restraining straps. My issue has been resolved by tweaking the lower hinge. good luck. excellent website even though i do have an alhambra. Quote
