I have been reading the forum for some years now and would like to say a big thanks to all who contribute, it has saved me a fortune over the years.

Thats the grovelly bit out of the way!

I developed the rattle that pointed to faulty / worn drop links, so i have changed them on both sides.

Problem is the rattle is still there

i see that quite a few people have written posts on suspension top mounts

i was wondering if that would give the same rattle?

The Car has done 105,000 miles and still runs a treat.

It went through an MOT last week, with the rattle and passed no problem.

I mentioned to the tester about the rattle and he gave all the steering joints extra attention, but the car was given the all clear.

if it is the top mounts can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to change them.

also can anyone point me in the direction of a haynes type manual for it

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Steve,

I had similar trouble last year. Mine has done 120,000 miles now. The drop links are the first target as you say. Make sure that the nuts are torqued up to the specified limits as if they are not there can still be movement of the studs in the holes giving a rattling noise.

On my Gal, the problem was more an occasional "thunk" on acceleration/braking. The prophets of doom all had me getting ready to tackle the worn drive splines issue. In my case though, I fixed it by replacing the lower wishbones complete with bushes. The old ones had a split rubber bush on both sides allowing excessive front/backward movement of the entire wheel knuckle under reciprocating loading. Again, make sure they are torqued up fully to limits as you can still get noise if the ends are not secured tightly enough. IIRC, they were about

Seach the well known auction site for the manual on CD. Less than a fiver. It will have the procedure for doing the top mounts. Have not had to do them myself though after doing 120,000 miles, but i guess it depends how fast you go over speed bumps! ;-)

didnt know corby had any speed humps? are you sure you not running over the locals after closing time? <_<

top mounts dont normally rattle! they mormally grind or graunch as you turn the steering wheel, there isnt a lot in the top mount that can rattle? are you sure its a suspension rattle?
