I have found the following link regarding a new glow plug but can you tell me if this is also suitable for a 53 plate Sharan 1.9Tdi? There is only 1 glow plug in the auxillary heater isn't there?

Also have i correctly diagnosed the problem - cars not my strong point. I had a huge amount of white smoke pouring from the car especially when the engine was idling. I did a bit of research on here and removed fuse 11 (I think) which cured the problem as the auxillary heater now not working. Is this likely to be fixed with a new glow plug? I have asked my local garage to do it when i get the part - they haven't done one before but the posts seem to indicate that it is not too hard so hope this is the case - but any extra help would be appreciated.

Thanks

there are 2 types a) from the link - this has a thread on the top and the 12v connects to that - the connector has a shoulder which makes the earth(0v) the other type  which are the same basic plug has two wires (more modern replacement) which requires a small modification to the connctor - either will do (I got mine from hans motors as per the link and it is still going strong after 5 years - touch wood)

is it still safe to drive with all the smoke coming out?

Have ordered a glow plug but won't get it until monday at the earliest, can I disconnect the booster heater in the meantime and if so how?
