oblique Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 This is a strange problem and it only happens sometimes but after braking hard or for a long time if i try an use the clutch even when the pedal is depressed to the floor it still won't quite disengage. When this happens after i get moving again or take my foot of the brake the glutch bite point move back up to about mid travle on the clutch pedal. I have checked the fluid level and it is about half way between max and min, should i top it up? are there anything i can do to get rid of this? i don't know if i have abs or not. mk2vr6 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 the brakes and the clutch share the same fluid source, but for some strange reason the brakes take priority over the clutch for fluid when the levels get low! :angry2: try topping it up and see if it helps? or your clutch or clutch slave cylinder is on the way out or has sprung a leak! are you loseing fluid? oblique Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 Not sure, i don't think so. I have only checked it once as i had brakes bleed by garidge few weeks ago so thought i would have loads of fulid. Only had car for a month. Quote
oblique Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 i have made another check and the fluid level is definatly good and not changing. What else could it be? Quote
tdi90 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I had same problem on my 99 Gal TDi. Turned out the clutch slave was faulty. Not loosing loads of fluid, but seals starting to leak. Get it checked over and if it does need doing, get the clutch changed while its stripped down for slave to be changed. It was Quote
oblique Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 That is one of the things i definatly didn't wan't it to be. How do you find out if it is leaking without paying someone to take the whole thing apart? if you had same problems as me could these not be caused by a leak anywhere else in the clutch or brake systems? tdi90 Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 I took mine to a local 'Mr Clutch', who took for a test drive, then had the car up on a ramp to check for obvious leaks. Nothing was found, so went ahead with the full clutch and slave change. Have had no problems with the clutch ever since. Mr Clutch was also Quote
