Emily's dad Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I spent a lot of time researching to find a decent quality roof box at a good price. As you mention Halfords is way too expensive and boxes on ebay are either worn out or cost a fortune in postage.I ended up buying one of these from this supplier www.carracks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3 Fantastic service, box arrived within 2 days. If I recall it is made by THULE but sold as their budget range. I have a wife and two daughters and it was sufficiently large to cope. It locks in three places and has adjustable fittings, it's been on the roof of a Toyota Avensis, Renault Scenic, a volvo S60 and our Alhambra. As for the bars I just bought a new adjustable set off ebay for about Quote

MrT Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 You can nearly always get cheap second hand bars on ebay and with the galaxy having roof rails, the fitting is fairly standard. I have bought Thule Aero bars from here. Again the same for second hand roof boxes, I got a Thule Vision 850 from ebay. With this large box on the roof I can also fit a bike carrier alongside. One thing to consider with the galaxy is the loading, the roof can take a maximum of 75Kg including the bars and the box. To keep the weight down, you should pack everything in soft or laundry bags. Being so high up, it can cause roll in the galaxy when overloaded. You also need to consider the lifting of the box onto the roof bars remembering the height of the galaxy, it can be tricky outside in a strong wind! Also if you are using ferries or Eurotunnel the total height of the vehicle with the roofbox, when mine is fully loaded with box and bikes, I have to book it on as a large vehicle which can cost a lot more. The choice of matched locks can be of use when you have many locks on bars, boxes and bike carriers. I have often used Roofbox for various bits and it they also have a goof informative site. They often have seconds for sale. Quote
POMPEYFAITH Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 id also recommed making sure you know the height as you will not get under most if not all car park rails and in multi-storey car parks Quote
JONESERIC Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 We have THULE Bars, Narrow Top Box and 2 x Thule Roof Bike racks. We also have the rear tow ball Bike rack for 3 machines. Quality = superb. Quote
pred Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 i am trying to get myself some roof bars also, but not so much because I need them, but because I feel it finishes the Galaxy off with them fitted, without them the galaxy looks bare and unfinshed I have had a look on ebay for some but i see the prices vary massivily, so any tips to get just a standard set of galaxy roof rails would be kewl Quote
