eupho Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 We need to renew my tyres. Currently 205/60 x 15. We have been on the mytyres web site, and they only have this size in either Summer or Winter rating.Has anyone any advice on this please. We do about 12K a year and regard ourselves as steady drivers. Our local motor shop states he can do alloys with tyres(probably Yokohama)for 350-00, I am not sure if these would be re-inforced. Any advice most welcome. Thanks Tom Quote
insider Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Summer tyres are usually fine for UK weather conditions. Winter tyres can be useful in areas where more extreme weather is experienced but they will wear quicker.Four Yokohama tyres for Quote
sepulchrave Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 Don't know about Mark 2's but my Mark 1 V6 has 215/60 HR15 Tyres fitted as standard. You do need the H rating since the car is capable of 135 mph, also easier to get the right load index in that size since many large heavy luxury cars use the same tyres. Joey Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 On my Mk1 V6 i've got 215/55/16 Linglong L688 bought from www.mytyres.co.uk Quote
sepulchrave Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 Yours is the later car with the 16" wheels Joey, hence the slightly lower profile which confirms that eupho currently has the wrong size tyres fitted. This is not a good idea at all, I'd definitely buy new ones the right size. Quote

Reinforced or Extra-Load is a must in this size, as stated earlier. Edited February 26, 2008 by sparky Paul Quote
snapper Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I currently use a part worn tyre fitting company, they have proper tested and stamped tyres, usualy good makes, prices from 35 pounds, puncture guranteed etc. Make sure you check for the yellow circular stamp on the rim. Oh by the way H rating is upto 130 mph, V to 150 Quote

Mine IS an early one (96N), and the handbook lists only three different tyre sizes (check inside the fuel flap, they're listed there as well) and 205 ain't one of 'em! Quote
mk2vr6 Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 original sizes for the galaxy were..195/65/15205/65/15215/60/15 Quote
sparky Paul Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 (edited) Are you suggesting that a different speedo drive was used on these cars Paul?Of course not, but there is some tolerance built into the speedo calibration. None of the other sizes quoted have exactly the same circumference either. original sizes for the galaxy were..195/65/15205/65/15215/60/15Strange. I might be wrong about the 'early' bit. My (admittedly later) mk.1 Ford Galaxy Owner's Manual, which covers all engine sizes, has tyre pressures for 195/65x15205/60x15215/60x15215/55x16 Haynes book also states '195/65R15, 205/60R15, 215/60R15 or 215/55R16 (depending on model)' I knew I had read it somewhere... no mention of 205/65x15. I am the only one with a handbook with these sizes in? Edited March 2, 2008 by sparky Paul Quote
snapper Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 195/65x15205/60x15215/60x15215/55x16 Give or take a few mm of rolling radius but 1955/65/15 and 205/60/15 are the same rolling radius and 215/60/15 and 215/55/16 are the same rolling radius so i suspect that the speedo drives have different configurations Quote
