sparky Paul Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 While you are under there, I would also check the idler pulley too - just to the right and above the tensioner. It's another common problem, and can cause similar issues to tensioner failure. It's only about Quote

scousedivvy Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 Hi guys.... well i have put the new tensioner and new idler pulley ( thanks sparkypaul ) and new aux belt on but the car is making a terrible screeching now and i've got no Power steering or alternator. Have i got the tension wrong ? it seems awful loose or could i have got the wrong belt from fords, told them it was a P plate 2.3 ... i'm sure it should be tight and not flapping about or am i missing something dead obvious!! ------ again, thanks in advance for any help; scouse Quote
madpete Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 belt should be tight have u routed it correctly Quote
scousedivvy Posted February 25, 2008 Author Report Posted February 25, 2008 belt should be tight have u routed it correctly I've routed it via the diagram on here - for a 2.3 from the bottom its to the outside of the A/C pump, inside of P/S pump, outside of pulley, over the alternator outside of water pump, inside of tensioner and around the crank .... the thing was that the old belt seemed to be different but i put that down to it coming off while driving!! Have i got it wrong somewhere madpete ?? cheers Quote

hjw Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Hi folks, This thread has been a great help to me so far, just one problem, I am having great difficulty undoing the bolt for the idler pulley, can someone please tell me before I try any harder, do i need to unbolt anti-clockwise or is this one of those strange back to front bolts?Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Hayden Quote
mikej Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Hi mate it's a normal bolt, anticlockwise to undo it. You ideally need a long reach slim 10mm combination spanner as you can see there is very little room to move. I am at this moment trying to locate a manufacturer who makes this ideal long reach spanner without much success, tried all the usual names and can't find the right one. Done mine last month and want to double check it's tight. If you are going to change it and if you havn't already bought one make sure you buy the updation steel version.. Quote
hjw Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks for that, much appreciated, at least I know I'm going the right way! Yes i've got a new steel replacement one, looks and feels like a massive improvement on the original.Again many thanks Hayden Quote
