BAZ8046 Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 I have a 55 plate TDI 115 which for a while has had a minor oil leak from high up at the back on the engine. On closer inspection the oil is comimg from the bottom of the EGR valve and running down the back of the engine. I have taken the pipe off the right hand side of the EGR unit and it does have some oil in it as well as plenty of carbon deposits. The leak is not bad enough to drip on the floor but it does make a mess and needs sorting. Has anyone had a similar problem and can suggest a fix? Great forum by the way. I have never come accross so much useful information in one place. Quote
Charlie Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 I have the same problem with my EGR valve; the oil comes from a small hole at the front of the valve and then runs down the back of the engine I noticed this problem about 12months ago, so I placed a white cloth in front of the hole to see how much was running out, the cloth is still there and it Quote
BAZ8046 Posted February 23, 2008 Author Report Posted February 23, 2008 Thanks for the reply. Mine is similar it is only a small amount. I think I'll take the valve out and have a look. As the valve sits in the intake system I'm a bit puzzled as to where the oil is coming from. Quote
?Bleeno? Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 It's an "oil burner" so you will get some oil back from the exhaust gases and recirculated into the system. You can clean the EGR valve before replacing it. Quote
