purplemadboy Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hi Guys I know its a bit of a dumb question ,but were is the new 2.2 engine from ? i.e is from Landrover or is it in house? Quote
Whizkid Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hi - I believe its a Ford/Peugeot collaboration - built at Dagenham. I believe its in the current 407 Quote
insider Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 It's a Ford engine, basically just a larger version of the 2.0 TDCi.It's also used in the Jaguar X-type, Ford Mondeo ST TDCi, new Land Rover Freelander . . . Quote
purplemadboy Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 Thanks for the info guys...is it the same engine that both off you guys are on about? :D Quote
purplemadboy Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 Me again, just been on another site and a guy there said, according to the fithgear program the engine is a renault unit which also powers the citreon c crosser. Quote
insider Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 It's definitely not a Renault unit.Ford developed it with PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) but manufacture it in Dagenham.PSA manufacture their own for Peugeots and Citroens. It's possible (but unlikely) that they also supply Renault. Quote
?Bleeno? Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I concur with Insider on this one ...definately Ford and believe me what a beast! 400Nm of torque with the transient overboost! Quote
AndyBee Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) I don't mean to get too nerdy about this, but I think the Jag X-type/Previous Mondeo 2.2 is an earlier generation engine than the current Freelander/407 and now Smax/Galaxy. This later engine is, in theory at least, a better engine. It is certainly more powerful (170 v 155 bhp). As anyone who drove a Ford diesel prior to the TDCi engines will testify, Ford were late out of the blocks on diesel engines (they were backing lean-burn petrol technology for the future rather than diesel). Hence the joint venture with PSA (Peugeot-Citroen) to try and catch up with the market. Ford make the larger engine sizes at Dagenham (up to the 4.6 litre V8 for the Range Rover, etc), and PSA make the smaller engines (1.4/1.6). If anyone has the inclination, a factory visit to Dagenham is quite enlightening - the diesel engine assembly plant is like an operating theatre (to avoid dust getting into the engines), and powered by wind turbines. On reflection, I probably have got too nerdy....I'll get my coat. Edited February 28, 2008 by AndyBee Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 New 2.2L TDCI engine: The new Mondeo/S-Max/Galaxy 2.2L engine is a PSA/Ford unit. The 2.2l 'DW12' engine is only manufactured at the PSA factory in France, unlike the 1.4/1.6L 'DV4/DV6' engines which are produced in Dagenham and Paris, and the 2.0L 'DW10' produced in Gothenburg and Tremery. In a similar vein, all the V6 diesel engines for both PSA and Land-Rover/Jaguar are only made in Dagenham. The earlier 2.0l/2.2L 'Puma' Diesel engine used in the last generation Mondeo, Jag X-type and Transit is a Ford engine, and a new version is now also used by PSA and Fiat in their larger vans. Quote
insider Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Ford make the larger engine sizes at Dagenham (up to the 4.6 litre V8 for the Range Rover, etc),There is no 4.6l V8 diesel, it is a 2.7l V6.There is a 4.4l V8 petrol engine but that is produced elsewhere. Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 IAndy B probably is referring to the 3.6L V8. This is made in Dagenham, and at the moment is used exclusively by Land Rover.Jag/LR petrol V8's (4.2 and 4.4L) are made in Bridgend. Quote
AndyBee Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) Willie - absolutely right - I had my 3 and 4 mixed up ! By the way, your knowledge of Ford engine manufacturing suggests you might work at Ford...but living in Northampton ?...Cosworth ?? Edited March 11, 2008 by AndyBee Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 Andy, No I don't work in Northampton, but in Essex - 37k+ miles per year just commuting. Quote
AndyBee Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 Wow ! That's dedication. I used to commute from Kent to Essex, and I thought that was far enough (c.80 miles a day), but you must do double that - and it must cost you a fortune at today's fuel prices. Quote
