I would imagine that the increase in rim size and the lower tyre profile would possible make the ride a little harsher? not to mention the increase in cost of a set of 17'' tyres! and its not just four rims you have to buy its five including the spare which will be of a smaller size otherwise!

Generally the larger wheel sizes makes ride worse but may improve grip when cornering due to lower sidewall hence less deflection. Motoring magazines tend to report this in their road tests. You may also find that 17inch tyres are more expensive to replace.

As to DAB - a couple of years ago Ford promised that DAB would be fitted to all their new vehicles by 2004. They appear to have broken this promise but your dealer should be able to offer the Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB unit at a very competitive price. Check with the DAB coverage maps first before going ahead though - I can tell you from in-house experience that DAB is not all it is cracked up to be - bandwidth is narrower than FM and sound quality is therefore worse than FM too. Try www.simplyradios.com and their DAB forum to which I've posted under my same alias of Ivor.

A friend of mine bought a Jag XJ and specified those large rims with silly ultra low profile tyres. He's regretted it ever since, it turns the ride into land rover quality and those alloys scrape every kerb - ouch!

Suspected as much - digital don't always mean better.

My boss recently got a galaxy with the elegance pack, 17" rims ect, he says the ride is harder than his previous 03 ghia which had 16" rims and that he bumped up on to a kerb whilst parking and took a nice chunk out of the front offside rim. Ouch!!
