TeamGreen Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Hi everyone, hope someone can help me with this problem with my 98 Sharan 110 TDI and engine code AFN. It is the usual turbo going into limp mode but only occurs when the engine is cold AND the outside air temp is freezing. It does not happen if the engine is warm or if the air temp is above freezing. I have checked all the other threads and followed the suggestions, split hoses etc but all seem ok. Apart from this the engine runs really well giving on average over 40mpg and when the engine is warm I do "air the pipes" on a regular basis. I have not been to the dealers yet to have the fault codes read yet just in case someone can give me some ideas. Thanks in advance. Quote
Alanuk Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Interesting, I am experiencing a similar problem when it is really cold in the mornings, again it is fine when I am driving home and it has warmed up. I have started to think that maybe the MAF sensor is on its way out but I only replaced it just over a year ago. When you say limp mode how bad is it? on my gal there is definately a performance loss and I also notice the trip computer is only showing about 30mpg on a cold morning as apposed to around 45mpg when I am on my way home when it has warmed up a bit, I know that the aux heater could probably be some of the reason for this but as for the loss of power...well I'm not sure, maybe MPG stands for Mafs Per Gallon!! :D Edited February 18, 2008 by Alanuk Quote
TeamGreen Posted February 18, 2008 Author Report Posted February 18, 2008 The limp mode is the "full on prepare to be overtaken by cyclists and milk floats" kind but at least the mpg stays about the same as the aux heater doesn't work due to the terminals being corroded on the fuel metering pump for it and there is not enough to solder another on. Still love the car for all its faults though. Quote
