Windows Closes Then Opens A Bit!

Hi All,

 

When I auto close the drivers side window it has started to open about 4 inches. Had this a while ago but it went, but has just started again.

 

Closing the windows again it stays shut.

 

Not a big problem but anyone any ideas? I do keep the rubber seals lubed with silicon spray.

Two reasons for the backing off of the window as its a safety feature when too much current is absorbed by the motor.

1 is to clean the glass and sealant rubbers the other is to check the drive cables are not worn or stretched.

 

Its to stop hands being severed by the window as it closes etc.

You can get a can of window seal lubricant spray from Halfords. that should help solve the problem.

A silicone based polish is as good as anything BUT, I had this problem a couple of months ago and it wasn't the first time it had happened.

 

My car would do this once or twice a month, then all of a sudden it did it for about 2 months solid and then seemed to correct itself without any input from me. I used to "shuffle" it shut with the switch. It is indeed a safety feature, but im not convinced that physical resistance was the cause of the problem.

 

A month or so ago the window stopped working all together (in the closed position fortunately) and after reading a few posts on here, I decided to have a look at the door loom between the A pillar and door. I found i had a broken Red/Yellow wire but also a few others were showing signs of cracking on the insulation.

 

I dont know whether this was just a coincidence or a related fault but I have not had a recurrence of the symptom since I repaired the door loom and I would recommend at the very least checking for broken wires just in case. They are quite obvious when broken as it it the complete wire that breaks, not just the conductor within the insulator.

I have to agree with Tiny, broken wires are the bane of this car! Any job on anything electrical should include a wiring inspection!

Funny thing is that just as a maintenance thing that I do every now and then, I have recently sprayed the rubber window seals and trim with a silicone lubricant. My situation is very much as Tiny has described. I will start by giving the windows a good clean, but checking wiring will be next! Drive cables after that.

 

Can anyone tell me how I check for stretched or worn drive cables and can they be repaired?

I have just had the same problem and cleaning and Halfords silicone rubber and plastic spray seems to have does the job.

Can anyone answer my query. How does the mecanism know when to stop at the top and bottom?

I have just dismantled a spare regulator mechanism and motor but cannot figure it out.
