Paul the flashing drivers door light is showing the operation of the immobiliser and from what you describe is normal and nothing to do with your intermittent loss of power. With the car locked and the alarm enabled you should see the light flash every so often.

hi my 115 zetec does this when i show it a hill after the wife has been using it to go back and forth to work for a week, but just do as is mentioned give it a blast up motorway and all is fine for a couple of months. Took it to france in april no problem.

I had the powermaxx trestment done recently at a nationwide autocentre and that seems to have done the trick. It's no longer tripping out and the economy seems to have improved by a couple of mpg.

I'll add myself to the tally. 2001 1.9 TDI, 80k on the clock. It started to occur just went my wife went up the local hill, started occurring more frequently then happens pretty much every time.

The key is to get the diagnostics on it and determine whether it is an overboost or an underboost problem. The overboost problem (which I had) is where the vanes fail to open due to carbon build up, so the boost accumulates up with no limiting and no excess air escaping. The engine then shuts itself down into limp-home.

Once you turn the engine off and on again it starts again in normal mode.

I'll try your driving technique. That'll save getting the turbo out. Thanks!

Remember, it's important to get the problem sorted before too long - every time it overboosts, the turbo is overspeeding, which will eventually lead to turbo bearing failure. The best course of action is to remove the turbo and either clean the mechanism yourself or get an exchange unit from Midland Turbos in Nottingham - they only charge around

I had the turbo-boost cutout 4-5 times about a month ago when the temp was around -15 to -20 C. Since then it's been warmer and it hasn't cut out. Each time it reset by switching off and on and no warning lights came on. At least one time I noticed it cut out exactly as the rpms reached 3000.

2004 115 hp with 120 000 km (72 kmiles).

Only had it twice, it's not done it for a few months. I hoping my driving style has cleared it out!

Recently acquired a 2003 1.9 TDi 115PS 90K miles and yes, among other faults, the turbo trips out at about 3000 revs when under some load. When I first drove it out of the city where it had lived for several years, the turbo gave a loud squeal before tripping, and there was hardly any boost. Dealer has since replaced the vane actuator so that there is now more boost and much less squealing! :o but it still trips when I need it most.

For those who want to see how the variable vane system works, try or for info, pics and videos.

Dealer is getting my vehicle back next week for 'adjustments' and, if I'm lucky, cleaning the vanes to eliminate sticking. Will let you know if he cures it... ;)

I have experienced exactly the same thing, I deliberately induced it after the wife complained of it, I use shell synthetic oils and change the air filter regularly but it does manifest itself from time to time, the best way to prevent it is to give the vehicle the occasional blast once warm to 'exercise' those vanes. Wifey does a lot of town driving resultant in inevitable carbon build up.

Had it twice today, on purpose.

I thought I'd see what RPM it will trip out at in 3rd gear, it was 3500rpm. The other time was about 3000rpm in 4th...

Mine did it too.

Taken the turbo off this week to clean clean clean. What a job and 3 halfs it was removal and fitting. Every job i do on this car seems to get harder and harder to do. First was the pollen filter which is bad enough having to remove the wipers. Second was the air intake which I have scars in my memory. Now the turbo.

Even when cleaning the vanes, the varnish stuff was really welded on. Spent 4 hours scraping and scaping. Put it all back together and voila - STILL LITTLE TURBO POWER !!?! Checked actuator movement and now there definately is some better movement. Checked the vacuum from the resovoir and it seems weak. Also when you remove the vac pipe from the resovoir ball there is only a small PSSST.

So my theory is that the vacuum system weakens somewhere either through a hole or via a faulty n75 valve and this causes less turbo movement and lets the soot to build up. Now I have to go and find the vacuum problem.

Question - When i have the bonnet open and switch off the engine, after a few seconds i hear a pop noise which is the actuator of the turbo jumping back to its position. Is this normal?

This sounds exactly like the problem that I have got on my Galaxy TDi 130. It's done 63k miles and stopped 5 time on the way back from Yorkshire to devon last week. My friendly garage man diagnosed the problem and is just about to put some chemicals in the turbo to clean it out. Hope it works as the chemicals are costing me ~

My 2002 115bhp TDi had this problem for some weeks/months before I was forced to change the Glow plugs because of very poor starting during the Cold weather we had in December.

All 4 gone I suspect sooted the Turbo Vanes etc.

After changing cold starting was back to normal. Overboost failure only happened twice before I drove it on the motorway with some high revs upto 4000 involved.

It has not happened since in about 3000 miles.

Now just an overheating problem at the end of 1700miles towing a 1600kg Caravan!

hey guys, just now joined this club of galaxys cause have one too,mk2 2000year X reg,115p, got one issue and seems that its this one where im replying to.

Car drives perfect, but time to time turbo just like swiches off,no power going to hill and etc. and keeps draging on 40 on 60 mile road, and that really not good thing when peapole overtakes you cause you slow... BUT big but ,while im driving when i notice that turbo went off, cause accelerator till end,and car still at same speed,if i turn off ignition and restart engine quickly it works again from nowhere.. turbo just comes back to lifeh, and car keeps goin as it should... so i want to find out what could cause this, ive tried to unplug air flow and then tried to have a ride ,but turbo didint worked so that means that air flow sensor is allright and not needed to change, but after this try i cant find a clue where could problem be... still havent tooked it to garage to have a check cause i know how much they charge and sometimes does things wich not needed at all to fix it.can someone give advice what to do,where to clean and what to clean ? or its not cleanable.. at least my prob.

Galaxy 2006 (55 plate) 1.9TDi 115bhp

Mine suffers from going into limp mode too, But only in the cold weather (last two winters) and with a cool engine. Diagnostic is Engine Code 17965: Turbo pressure control limit exceeded.

Limp mode is reset by turning ignition off and on again, and like said before, not point in getting the code cleared as it doesn't change anything. Got used to resetting on the move the few times it happened. One thing I did note was that it stopped for a bit when I had the car serviced (which happens to coincide with the cold weather) which did include engine flush and conditioner and a diesel treatment (not very expensive).

This made me rule out a vacuum leak, but before I could muster up the energy to investigate further, the weather would warm up and the problem go away. Of course I'm asking to have to fix this in the next snow fall....

Could be MAF or T-MAP but while it's working, difficult to pin it down.

Check all your Glow Plugs function. They do more than just help starting. If the fuel is cool/cold they operate to help clean combustion.

The EGR valve operates to recirculate sooty combustion products which help cause the problem of sticky Turbo vanes.

Since I changed the Glow Plugs and blocked the Vac pipe for the EGR operationon my 2002 115bhp TDi Ghia it happened once until I drove it up the motorway, not since months ago (Feb?). It pulls far better and my Fuel consumption improved as well. (3/4mpg)

I'm sure the electrically operated valve controlling the vacuum was stuck open.
