minimad Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 got a problem with reversing lights on my 95 2.8 i have changed all bulbs and fuses still no joy is there switch and if so ware is it im starting to get a bit frustrated with it now cant seem to get any joy out of my local ford garage at all Quote
smedzz Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 not sure if this will help mate but the last time i changed a reversing light switch was on a escort being a ford thought they might be in the same area,it was underneath the gear stick on underside of car Quote
mk2vr6 Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 the switch is on the gearbox, bit of a bugger to get on the VR but it can be got at if you dont mind the discomfort and a few cuts and bruises! there is a post somewhere with a picture of the switch try pushing the lever into reverse and hold it at the stop and see if the lights come on? sanjsanj Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 open the tailgate and look at the top right hand side. Remove the black piece of plastic from the top and inspect for broken wires. Very susceptible to breaking so well worth a check. Quote
sepulchrave Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 Good luck replacing the switch, it's a horrific job. Don't be tempted to try and remove the 'battery tray' it's part of the monocoque, oh, and those four large bolts under the battery are all thats holding the gearbox to the car! I've done it, but it has to be done blind from beneath the car, the switch is on top of the gearbox between the selector mechanism and the bellhousing. I know that doesn't help much, but when you finally do it you can console yourself by imagining how much the stealers would have charged for the job. Quote
mk2vr6 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 you remove the coil pack lean over and reach down into the depths! unplug the loom, stick a screwdriver into the clips holding the switch in place and flick them open, lift the switch clear and replace it the new one :35: no need to work blind, jack up the car or remove the undertray unless you drop something! sepulchrave Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Bloody hell! I couldn't get my arm down the gap, assumed it wasn't humanly possible. I suppose I am quite large.......... Quote
marcr Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Any joy minimad?? I had the same problem. Thought it was the reversing switch at first but realised the fog light didn't work either and that wouldn't be down to the switch. Took sanjsanj's advice and checked the wiring going into the tailgate and had 9 broken wires!! There's 14 going through there. Was a bit fiddly to bridge the breaks because the connectors i used were quite bulky and i soon ran out of space but got there in the end. took about 3 hours start to finish.Let us know. Quote
