Hi ,I have a little problem with my Galaxy auto gearbox that normally happens a couple times a month.

I can be driving the car and it wont change up a gear, even if you put the accelerator flat to the floor. Sometimes it doesn't want to change into third from second and also sometimes it has no gears what so ever.

This problem only lasts for about five minuets then all is fine again.

I was just wondering if it just needs a transmission fluid top up or something. Also has a little squeak sometimes when it changes gear.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like same issue i get. In a nut shell you need your gearbox fluid flushed out and refilled up.

You need a specialist to do this, as its not a simple case or drain and refill. Oils are about 80.00 from ford. so not a cheap job lol

if you put the accelerator flat to the floor, it'll think you're trying to kickdown and change down a gear, or stay in that gear as long as possible.

Sound like nothing more than a fluid issue , check you level is correct , very important for auto boxs also note there may be two different levels one for hot fluid when the vehicle has just been driven and another for when the fluid is cold or vehicle hasn't been used etc this should be shown on the gearbox dip stick . If this doesn't help you could try changing the fluid as suggested .

Just had the same problem. Whilst doing 70 on the A1M the speedo went down to 0, but the car carried on going and I was able to pull into the inside lane until the speedo came back after a couple of minutes. Car was then stuck in 3rd gear until I got home and restarted the car, all now working.

Is this a common issue, or does mine sound different to the rest.

you should get an auto box service done we do this on the mercedes autoboxs at work we change th atf fluid filter and sump gasket we do this for 175 including vat but the fluid is 10 a litre as it is not normal atf (dexron 2) do not try this yourself take it to a specialist whenever we get a gearbox fault we always try this first unless there are certain fault codes in the ecu

Is the auto box on a 2.3 zetec a sealed unit and there for can not be toped up? Or is there a place to put transmission fluid?

Their is NO dipstick for the Auto box, its a sealed unit. You have to warm oil up before you drain it. You need to refill with the exact amount too much or too little and it will go bang.

Get an Gearbox specialist to look at it.

Hi Bobski.

I'm sure the specialists call is a 'Power Flush'. This is supposed to clear 'all' the old oil out as just draining alone has been known to empty only about half of all the oil as only the sump drains leaving any debris within the box, in the box.

This is definately a job for the specialist.

I hope it sorts things for you.

Hi new to the forum but thought i should let you all no that Fords do not change the oil nor the oil filter in any autobox.Come to that not many makers do and yet it says it is ment to be changed,on most auto's every 24,000 miles. So if you start to get slipping in gears dont just top the fluid up make sure you change the filter, very simple job should only take about 20 mins.If you have had a major service make sure they have changed the auto box filter as you are charged for it.Even the parts department at my local Fords did not no wot it looked like,SO CHECK ITS BEEN DONE or it will be exspencive when you have to have a new gearbox.

If you take off the plastic shield off from under the vehicle the filler tube is just under the starter motor you have to pop the plastic cover off the tube, to drain it you have to drop the sump off the box there you will see the filter change it before refilling. It should only take about 20mins. Be Warned Fords DO NOT change this.
