Hi All,

I bought a mk1 galaxy at the weekend at a good price because the drivers door electric window does not work and the electric sunroof stopped workin in the open tilt position.

I managed to close the sunroof by the manual closing on the motor using the supplied allen key under the panel, And also noticed that i could open the passenger side window from the drivers side switch but it wont go up by the switch, it works fine up and down from the passenger side.

Having seen on here that it could possibly be down to snapped wires inside the rubber gaitor that the window is not working but is the sunroof not working due to this snapped wire as well ? Are the wires for the sunroof in this gaitor as well ?

Any help on this would be much appreciated as apart from these couple of issuse the cars is not too sad and hopefully will serve us well.

Ah just one other thing, Is the mk1 easy to do a home service on i.e just change plugs, oil and filters or should i swallow hard and put it in to a garage ?

Cheers guy's and thanks !

hi kenny have you checked all fuses etc just to make sure its nothing simple,it could be a naff s/roof motor?cant remember whether you can use the allen key to fully open the sunroof or not but it might be worth a try,if it starts to retract on the skew then STOP and put it back, because it might mean the worm thread has been stripped, have in the past replaced a sunroof etc on my old mk1 galaxy post is on here somewhere, and there is a post in the facts about fitting a new sunroof posted by cm2007,found it for you.

servicing your car apparently is simple if your handy with tools (i get my m8 to do it :( )

iirc you need an extension socket for the plugs.

Cheers for that mate, Im not too fussed about the sunroof as long as its closed and not leaking i wont use it, but thought i read something on here that the wires are in that rubber boot along wiv the lekky window ones.

I will have a good look at the weekend and check all fuses first and then if no joy il check for broken wires and splice in new ones if any are broken.

As for the service on it, I may give the guy's in the repair bay at work a shout to see if they will do it ( I work at the Engine plant in Fords in Dagenham )

Cheers mate all the best !

defo need to look at the wires for the windows - if the switch for the sunroof is on the door then you may be able to sort this as well
