Kevinb Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Paul, cheers for your advice. I'm also assuming that the filter frame needs to slide into the outer frame recessed track in order to keep it secure in place. I ask this as I've never actually seen it properly in place and want to make sure I'm doing this right. If anyone out there has a close up picture of the filter slid into place it would be very helpful. Many thanks for your help, it's one of those "not sure until I've done it jobs". I hate the idea of having a very large paperweight on the driveway which I've caused, especially in this weather. Quote
paulthepunk Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 Right, I've just bought a galaxy mk1 diesel, W reg. I was having same issues, lack of air flow, steam etc. Got new combination filter off eBay and followed Seatkids instructions. However when I got to reassembly it was impossible! Far too big, wiper bolts solid etc. I had to come at it from a different angle. I got the cordless grinder on the filter holder and cut the raised cover off. I then ran the grinder round the entire front edge of the filter holder and the centre bar with a flap disc in and removed 2mm approx of plastic. This was prefect, it let the holder and filter in and where it needed a wiggle it was now far more flexible! Very easy fix, if you're handy with a grinder. Hope this helps someone, I know 14year old car, probably not many bothered now! P. S. Date stamp on original filter of 2001! Quote
barna Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 thanks seat kid great pics easy followed.. a very simple tip to add and it makes this awkard job a real doddleive an 07 sharan same as 06 galaxy get a numberplate u have 2 on the car so no excuses place the numberplate right up to to filter housing being careful to keep the loose single cable towards back right hand side of wiper motor underneath it unclip filter n glide it across numberplate fitting is reversalI found leaving wipers down in park position was best happy days everyone oops put numberplate back where u got it Quote
barna Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 update i forgot to say the numberplate goes behind wiper motor on bulkhead side of gap.that stops the filter fouling on way out and back in at the point behind wiper motor if you changed one before ule understand and if its your first time u will follow my tip all skin on hands intact.on refitting once filter has reached start of it housing use ur right hand and push filter inwards as your left hand slides it into position to clip it home.make sure it is seated properly in the housing to keep water and debris out or it will cost a lot in repairs further oncheck the direction of arrows on old filter before removing so as to put new on in same way.only thing i removed was engine cover and bulkhead firewall as in seatkids pic nothing else touched or loosened .
