scorch21 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hello out there, at the mo i only got iddy biddy 15" wheels on V6 gal. Looking to pimp the thing with some 17"ones. Now the thing is do i need to upgrade the size of the disc`s as well???????????? They got 288 front and 268 rear, any ideas?????????Help welcome as always Quote
mk2vr6 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 why would you need too? it's only the rim size your increaseing the overall tyre size wont increase nor will the overall speed of the vehicle! so to answer your question NO! Quote
junglejim Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 My Galaxy has 16" wheels and only has the 288 discs on - I replaced them about 4months ago. Its the 1.9t tdi 115 so probably not the fastest although, being diesel, it weighs a lot - I know, I had to push it a lot over the last couple off weeks  . When it does go, the brakes are quite good. Quote
scorch21 Posted February 8, 2008 Author Report Posted February 8, 2008 Thanks fellas, Sure i seen somewhere that with bigger rims u needed a bigger disc size. Must of been someone trying so sell me some ;) Nevermind your help as always is greatly recieved. Quote
Rusty Nail Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 No you don't need to upgrade your discs, but larger ones would look better as there is nothing worse than a great set of alloys with piddly little disc behind them. The question is, are the caliper mountings the same as on the MKII with 16" wheels? Also, do the discs and calpers have the same offset? There are quite a few things to look at if you wanted to upgrade, as you would need to change the the discs, calipers, pads, dust shields, hoses etc... Have a look and weigh it all up. Quote
