spongebob_antspants Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 About 1 week ago, the LED display below my radio has started flashing on and off when I turn on the ignition. This is the LED display that shows the temperature and has a "bar" display for the strength of the fans etc.The display flashes with strange characters then after about 30 seconds it settles down and displays correctly again. This doesn't appear to be a major problem but it's never done it before and I'm concerned that it may indicate some other, more fundamental problem. Has anyone else noticed this symptom and is there any way to fix it? Quote

Hi spongebob_antspants' First the display you mention is LCD not LED (Liquid crystal display - Light emiting diode) and Not sure, but I think it is some thing to to with air con, do a search on here for Air-con, or climatic control. gregers Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 as radio 2 above has said do a search,it does sometimes mean it needs a regas for the aircon,at the moment my local kwik fit is doing regases for 35 quid. Quote
butch Posted February 4, 2008 Report Posted February 4, 2008 Hi Spongebobi think when the led display is flashing like you said thats to let you know there is a fault with the aircon or heater, i have the same fault on my gal but it works ok, if the fault is like my car when you first turn the key on the lcd will flash for about 15 sec then all will be ok, and from the info on here it may just want gas in the aircon unit.hope this helps you a bit.regards.steve (butch) Quote
spongebob_antspants Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) Guys, thanks for your responses. I tried turning on the aircon (haven't done so throughout the winter months) and it seems that it's not working - airflow is only a dribble and it's not cold, so it seems a regas is required. The annoying thing is that I paid for it to be regassed at its last major service (80k) only 8 months ago. Is it common to need to regas so soon after last time it was done? Does this indicate some sort of leak somewhere? Edited February 10, 2008 by spongebob_antspants Quote
