stringbean Posted February 2, 2008 Report Posted February 2, 2008 Hi,I have a 1999 Galaxy Zetec 2.3 petrol auto,i have had her for nearly 4 years with no problem.Today i noticed she was smoking abit but just put it down to the weather but as soon as i increased the revs i noticed i could not see the car behind due to the amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust.I have not lost no power and the smoke only clears when i take my foot of the throttle.Even on tickover outside my house the smoke is still present.Any ideas please before i take her to th garage. Been told it could be dodgy petrol.Smoke smell's of marzipan or almond. Quote
Stevoo Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 White smoke normally means water entering cyclinders. check water levels, and check oil cap and oil dipstick for any creamy mayo in oil. Check if header tank is brown as well.If so it maybe headgasket failure, i wouldnt drive it anymore until its been checked over as you can worpe the head. Quote
mikej Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Totally agree with above sounds very much like water in pots , gives a very thick white smoke especially when you gun it . Like already said i wouldn't drive it or it could cost you alot more than just a head gasket set lol . Try and take plugs out and have a nosey you may even be able to see it in the pots / plugs wet etc . Any temperature rise on gauge , rough running etc ?best of luck :16: Quote
stringbean Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 (edited) The water level is ok and the oil is still correct colour with no sign of a creamy colour.Does anybody know why smoke should smell of a marzipan or almond smell. No temperature rise either Edited February 3, 2008 by stringbean Quote
Stevoo Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Have a sniffer test done, you prob have a head gasket failure, not a major one but small amounts of water dripping into heads.Any garage can do a sniffer test. Quote
