My Gal does not have the standard front to rear roof bars, But I have decided to get a set as Galaxies look much better with them fitted.

However, after about a month of trying I cannot seem to find a scrappie in my area (sth Essex) that have any. Even if I could find a set, I would not feel comfortable removing the roof lining and drilling holes in the roof.

Does anybody know if any companies make a set of replica front to rear bars that fit onto the roof in the same way as the Halfords (side to side) type of bars do, and do not require drilling?

I just want them to make the car look better. I have no intention of putting anything on the roof as the car is big enough on the inside for what I want anyway.

Cheers.

I have found the only use for the roof bars is for holding on to when polishing the roof. I personally would rather they had not been fitted as they make extra wind noise when driving at high speed.

You need them if you're going to carry 7 people and luggage. I use mine to clamp a roofbox to so I can carry everyones clutter. I agree they do look better with them on.

I believe the roof already has holes for the bars but the roof lining can be tricky to remove and replace.

There was a thread a few months back on how to fit roofbars to a Gal that doesn't already have them, but I can't remember if it said where you get them from. You could try searching for that. Otherwise, if you can afford it, why not wait for the new chrome roof bars to come out and buy them from Ford?

Try Ebay - Here's a set that were sold last week, and I have seen them in the past -

I think the chance of fitting "stick on" rails is impossible - imagine them coming unstuck at speed - in addition if they even existed there is a chance that someone would try and use them - I'm afraid your only choice is fit the proper ones, go without or buy a new car. According to another thread, fitting is staightforward, but don't blame me if it all goes horribly wrong - good luck.

A friend of mine pointed out another use for the rails - he immediately said the car was fitted with SKIs - I'm not planning to try them out though.

Agreed - longtitudinal bars must be secured by bolting through the roof otherwise air resistance etc will tear them off. As has been said, there is a thread that needs locating which will give clear instructions on what to do.

ISTR that those rails were obtained from a scrappies.
