Hi

As a new member I'm delighted to have found this forum and very interested to note how many of the technical problems experienced by members reflect my own experience with a Galaxy (T Reg Aspen TDI)

Like several other members I'm struggling to replace the pollen filter on the car. I dont think it's ever been changed despite what the service shedules suggest. If any further description of this operation or better still 'photos are availabel they would be a great help.

Best Wishes

Hugh

I struggled with this last week and was correctly and helpfully advised on the 27th January by IANOCK see history, all the wiper motor mechanismn which hinders access and fixed by three bolts must be 'hinged' forward slightly to give sufficient clearance in removing the filter and housing.

Two bolts out of the 3 that retain the wiper linkage must be removed, centre & n/s

This means removing the obvious plastic full width bulkhead it has 3 X 10 mm retaining bolts, n/s, centre & o/s

Remove n/s wiper arm

Lift the n/s plastic trim immediately beneath it, to remove one bolt retaining the n/s wiper linkage

Remove an identical centre bolt nr the motor itself

The only other remaining bolt on the o/s beneath the n/s wiper blade can just be slackened a tad.

This gives enough play to do the biz, exiting and replacing the filter via drivers side

I have changed my pollen filter a couple of times now, and find no need in removeing the wiper mech! the technique i was shown by a VW Technician is to set the wiper arms so that they sit upright on the screen, which moves the wiper mechs arms out of the way giveing you access to the filter

The models must differ cos I tried all wiper angles to remove the Pollen Filter, I did get it out, albeit with a gouged housing, with vertical wipers, as advised, but the linkage on mine must be 'eased' out of the way to replace, impossible otherwise.

I had to take my pollen filter out when I was investigating the problem with blocked scuttle drains... they'd backed right up, flooded the footwell via the pollen filter inlet and trashed the ECU. I didn't need to remove the windscreen wipers, just put them upright. The key to getting the filter out for me was removing the plastic shelf underneath after removing (I think) 3 bolts. It then slid out right over to the drivers side.

Where's the best value place to buy a new pollen filter... I ended up just cleaning the one I had but haven't got round to replacing it yet. I know I should as there is too much moisture in the air con system and the windows steam up very badly in the wet weather.

Paul try a motor factor ( Partco etc ) and they will either have a pollen filter on the shelf or they`ll order you one and it should be a good deal cheaper than at Ford.

sorry if this is a stupid question but are the odour filter and the pollen filter the same thing? according to the manual the odour filter is supposed to be changed at every service interval and my dealer checked the box on the service record to say he'd done it, but i'm a bit suspicious because i wasn't invoiced for a new filter - the only parts i was charged for were those relating to the oil change.

Yes same thing, and Ford schedule shows pollen filter should be changed at EVERY service. See Seatkid's new postings for photos of what to do.

The odour filter is a carbon impregnated version of the pollen filter and is a lot more expensive than the standard filter. Its designed for use in heavily polluted areas (mainly eastern europe) to supposedly prevent corrosion problems on the (poor quality) evaporators.

Can You advise on sorting out my"scuttle drains" where do they exit? How do I clear them?

Got a new pollen filter for

The scuttle drains exit up behind the wheel arch liners, lift the bonnet and shine a torch into the area where the wiper mech and pollen filter is situated, in the corners below where the windscreen meets the front wing and you should be able to see the drains.

I'm told that the drain's exit on the drivers side is behind the carbon canister which restricts the flow of water through it!

I've read on the forum somewhere that there is a kit that eliminates this problem? IIRC it consists of a new pollen filter housing with a splash guard and sponge filter cover and a set of sponge filters that sit over the scuttle drains to stop them getting blocked

funny how all this advice and info about this problem appears after you already have the optional indoor pool! :(
