purplemadboy Posted January 20, 2008 Author Report Posted January 20, 2008 Thanks for your input, but 10 bhp is 10 bhp , but I tow a fair size caravan and need all the power I can get,he same way I didnt buy the 120 bhp car Quote
Nick Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 If a few bhp is important to you, get it remapped. Several solutions on the market, http://www.digimoto.com/ Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Unless you go around towing at maximum revs, it is the TORQUE not the power you should be interested in, and at 320Nm the 150PS Mk2 and the 140PS Mk3 have the same peak torque. In fact, the Mk 3 has more, as it has a transient overboost function, adding another 20Nm. The 10PS peak power difference only effectively occurs at 3800 - 4000rpm, so is completely useless for towing unless you tow at 120MPH. I cannot recommend remapping as it will put several engine parameters beyond their design limits, and will probably give rise to all kinds of failure issues, especially overheating and premature turbocharger failure. mumof4 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 IIRC jkspoff had problems with his galaxy after it was remapped. Quote
gregers Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 yes he did mum,and spent a few quid trying to sort it out. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 he certainly did gregsy baby  you know....shire horses have some pulling power, :16: Quote
davetech Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 I would like to re-ask the original question... Does anybody know if there is any intention of bringing out a more powerful diesel.I started with a 115 Mk II, upgraded to a 130, then a 150. I'm now on my second 140 Mk III. The 150 Mk II was quite scary with its soft handling. The Mk III could easily handle an increase in power in comparison to the Mk II. Quote
adrianf. Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 So you could really answer the original question in a strange way.Is there much difference between the 150 MKII and the 140 MKIII or has he nothing to worry about Quote
davetech Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 The MkII 150 was faster, but I'd say a little too fast for the handling of the car. The MkIII 140 is still quick, but not quite as fast. It's the handling which is far superior, which makes you think it would enjoy more power. Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Can't say too much, but if you look at what engines are in the LR Freelander, it might give you a hint as to what is just around the corner. Watch the press reports during the next few weeks. Quote
purplemadboy Posted January 25, 2008 Author Report Posted January 25, 2008 Willie your a tease :) Quote
Shabazmo Posted January 26, 2008 Report Posted January 26, 2008 I heard from Basingstoke audi that there is a 2.2ltr diesel planned with a double clutch gearbox, similiar to that on the vw/audi dsg gearboxes. Both engine and gearbox to be sourced from Volvo who are the development lead in this. As to when I was told in 2008 but no signs of any press release yet so probably not until the end of the year. I am waiting for the 2008 model year before I order my diesel. This should be sometime in March Quote
Whizkid Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hi - Ive heard that there will be a 2.2ltr diesel available to order from March 2008. 170bhp I believe. Heard this from my local dealer. Quote
purplemadboy Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hi Whizz, What dealer were you at? Quote
Antioch Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 I have a Auto 2.0 Duratorq TDCi and its 130 bhp, 6 months old but I was told if I waited till March for a new one it would be 140bhp... and that the others will still be 140 or 150 no higher. Quote
davetech Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 That would be good. I wonder why it needs a 2.2 litre to produce 170BHP when VW get 170BHP from a 2 litre diesel (Skoda Octavia VRS diesel for example). I'm not complaining, just wondering. The Mk III Galaxy will handle the 170BHP better than the MK II handled 150BHP. Quote
purplemadboy Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 I have the 150bhp and dont know what everyone is on about the " handling " of the 150bhp  maybe I just drive correctly...... :D Quote
davetech Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 My 150bhp MKII handled OK, but cornering while flooring it in 2nd or 3rd sometimes raised the hairs on the back of the neck; whereas the MKIII handles superbly and seems to want more. Quote
Whizkid Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 The dealer was Evans Halshaw in Poole. Its also going in the S-Max & apparently the order book is open on them. There is a lot of discussion on this over on the S-Max owners forum Quote
ckhouse Posted February 23, 2008 Report Posted February 23, 2008 Hi all, I had a 2.0 TDCi and had it remapped by Jamie Turvey & the guys at Superchips in Buckingham. Turns out that the 140 bhp was a lie. Mine had 154 bhp in standard tune straight from the factory. With the remap I had 173 bhp and loads of torque, around 400 Nm CKHouse Quote
Joey Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 When you look at power output it's the torque figure thats important in how powerful the engine is as bhp is a calculation of torque. It's a way of making one engine sound better than the other when they both technically produce the same torque. You can find a detailed explanation here http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/POWER1.htm Quote
