seatkid Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004  Now I am confused!! I think we could do with a manufacturers statement on this one - any volunteers to write to Ford/VW/Seat? :) Quote
Guest Andy Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 MY MICHELIN BOOK AT WORK DOES NOT STATE THAT MY VEHICLE IS FITTED WITH REINFORCED TYRES AS FACTORY STANDARD,NOR DOES MY HANDBOOK,AND AS FOR INSURANCE I WILL TAKE MY CHANCE ,OOPS SHOUTING SORRY,in the case of an accident i have only ever known for the engineer to be concerned with tread depth,Take builders for example they very rarely put a RF tyre back on there vans all they want is a cheap tyre to get them going. IF my handbook specified i HAD to use RF tyres on my galaxy i would have done so,but seeing as the load rating on the V rated tyres are more than adequate this is what i have done... :) :) :) Quote
NikpV Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 As far as galaxy's are concerned it only appears to be the post facelift models whether these had a differejnt tyre size fitted as standard I don't know, according to the three places I got quotes from (rapidfit - local maindealer site, F1 tyres bedford & ano???) 215/55 had to be r.f. and at the time only michelin and dunlop did these, in fact my gal came with the michelin r.f. straight from the factory. The table in my owners guide specified that 195/60 R16 (97/99) , 205/55 R16 (96/98) & 225/45 R17 (94) are all un-reinforced (I don't know what the 9? numbers stand for. At the time I checked many Galaxy's and although I can't remember what size tyres they had pre-facelift models did not seem to have 215/55 .What size of tyres have you got Andy?? Quote
NikpV Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Ah just checked your earlier post and see you have 205/60 R15, my owners manual does not list any 15 in as can be seen in my earlier post so I would have thought you were Ok with what you've got. There seems to be a discrepancy between the Seat(97) manual and the Galaxy(01) manual about 215/55 specifically. NIK Quote
Guest Andy Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 My tyre book at work only recommends that the 215 tyres are RF ,no mention about any others.... The load rating on my new tyres is greater than the old tyres so that does it for me. oh well....    Quote
Guest Andy Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 your unreinforced 205/60x15 do not meet the manufacturers minimum spec. Nope you are right my tyres do not meet min spec they EXCEED the min load rating by quite a bit....    Quote
