wazza Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008   My gal is in fords at the moment as the noise is unbearably bad, after changing the power steering pump on friday, the noise was still quite prominent, booked in again thsi week, they have investigated it and (correct me if im wrong) there is a gauze in a reservoir which is faulty and apparently letting out too much air!! and so this is the reason for the noise, they have ordered a new one which should arrive tomorrow and so hopefully pick it up and get rid of the 3 door fiesta thay have given me out of courtesy. Will keep updated Quote

Will keep updated Hi , yes you are right , there is a problem with the filter... it`s too fine and doesn`t allow the oil to pass through it fast enough , they`ve changed that on mine after the power steering totally packed up , they`ve also changed the pump recently and it`s failed again today.I`ve had a lot of apparent P/Steering malfunctions coming up on the display (which shuts the system down), but I found out today that there is a software problem , Fords are working on it but it won`t be available til April !So I`m waiting to hear if they`ll give me a 7 seater courtesy car ???. . . Please see my postings on another related page on this forum and good luck with yours. John Quote
Squishy Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Hi there, can you update us with exactly what the part is and was this advised by Ford Technical to the dealer as a resolution if it does actually fix the issue. Many thanksSquish ;) Quote
wazza Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 New gauze was fitted yesterday on the car and was succesful in getting rid of the noise (for how long I dont know) but as wife picked it up she just said if the noise had gone, service guy said yes and she was happy, will phone service up later to see if this was the problem. Squishy Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Nice one, I have been trying to get Ford Technical to get rid of the whine I get with my steering on my Galaxy 2.0L Ghia, if you leave it in the centre postion ( null ) it does turn itself off after about a minute or so. Then starts again as soon as you drive off.If you could let me know all the details regarding this I can contact my dealer and get them to check it out with Ford to see if this is the same issue, mine started to whine at 3000 miles. The part number or part description and where it is located would be helpful. Many thanksSquish. fandango Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Is it worse in cold weather? We have the 'whine' on ours, very similar to what you've described here - i.e. it's not there just as the steering comes back to centre, but comes on after a few seconds, then is there if you turn the wheel to about 13:00. Garage thought they'd cured it, but we've had a bit of a cold snap today and it's back! Given that the oil will be thicker in the cold weather sounds like it might be the gauze issue that we are having too. Quote
Squishy Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Wazza is going to post the exact details of the repair that resolved this for him. Im going to get mine serviced in a few weeks and hope to tell them to try this as well. I understand the service manager is or was on holiday, when he gets back Wazza will update us all. Squishy  Quote

Squishy :) Wazza! Where are you mate? It's been nearly 2 years! :D The p/s on mine has become even more noisy recently well tbh it's never been that quiet either, but I've put up with it. So dredging through old threads, I guess it's the gauze filter that needs replacing. Squishy, any ideas on the part no., location etc? Finally, when the hell are Haynes going to publish a manual for the mk3? :( Quote

Jaanus Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Can you describe the noise?I am going mad about the whine I get from the belt area. And yes, it could come from the pump area. The whine is similar to "too tight" belt whine: it is high pitch whine that will follow the rotations of the engine. The whine will be more powerful when accelerating slowly and is best heard when rpm is 1000-2500.And yes, I heard it first time in December/January (16000 km / 1000 miles). But of course there are other possibilities like tensioner etc. Quote
Neily Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 It's exactly like this: the whine I get with my steering on my Galaxy 2.0L Ghia, if you leave it in the centre postion ( null ) it does turn itself off after about a minute or so. Then starts again as soon as you drive off.I add that it's more noticeable in cold weather. Could be your belts but I doubt it, probably the gauze - as mentioned previously - or your car needs some software update or other. Quote
Jaanus Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I had it checked, they told me it is normal alternator whine :) Quote
