Herts Hammer Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 My bulb failure dashboard indicator has recently lit up on my dash. Trouble is I can't find a blown bulb anywhere on the car. Front Indicators, both sides - CheckFront side lights, both sides - CheckFront dipped headlights, both sides - CheckFront main beam, both sides - CheckFront foglights, both sides - Check Midline indicator repeaters, both sides - Check. Rear driving lights, both sides - CheckRear brake lights, both sides - CheckReversing lights, both sides - CheckRear indicators, both sides - CheckRear Fog lights, both sides - Check. So what bulb has failed? I'm damned if I can find it. Is a false warning light a common fault? Is there a bulb not inluded above that I should check? Quote
gregers Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 HERTS,check all the bulbs just to make sure. ive just suffered something similar to this,i checked all of my bulbs and the drivers rear brake light had failed on closer inspection absolutly nothing wrong with it wiggled it about a bit and it started working, drove down the road only for the light to come on again, checked it again the elements seemed ok,but changed the bulb anyway, hey presto dash light goes out, still stumped so ill be keeping an eye on this,im wondering if theres a loose wire somewhere???. The light on the dash indicated a bulb failure only to find the bulb working fine. I replacedI the bulb concerned (brake) and the dash light went out. It turned out that I had replaced a defective bulb previously with a cheap one. So be aware cheap is not always better! Quote
Steve S. Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Hi Herts, Sorry for asking a daft question, but you've not confused this dash light with one of the low temp/frost warning lights? Sorry!!! Steve. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 I don't see a mention of the rear licence plate lamps - have you checked them too? Quote
Herts Hammer Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 Definitely the bulb failure warning - Its the one that usually goes out once you've pressed the brake pedal. Ivor - I've over looked those, will check them later today. If that's not it, I'll have to take them all out for a closer inspection. Sounds like the brake lights are the most likely candidate, so I'll start with them. Quote
badman Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Hi there.. Im a new member, so dont really know how this works yet. but im pretty sure its not the licenseplate lamp that causes this problem. it doesnt work with the indicators. found out one day that both of mine where blown, and there was no warning lamp. and thene one question from me. how do I get to post a topic??? Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 If you're a new member you will not be able to post yet. IIRC you need to post 10 replies... should be in the Forum Rules somewhere.HTHIvor Quote
badman Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 (edited) Now thats kind of a shite rule... and if a guy knows nothing about cars, he will never be able to get the help he needs??? Edited January 27, 2008 by gregers Quote
mumof4 Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 actually, you can post..in the trainee section and then it will be moved to the appropiate forum, in fact it is only about 2 or 3 posts, off the top of my head. not 10. It may well be a crap rule, but there is a reason why it is in place. Admin and moderation team Quote
swifty Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 just wondered if its a common fault as when I start my Gal I also get the break bulb light come on then diappear when you press the brake pedal. All my lights work regards Swifty. Quote
gregers Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 swifty this is a safe guard feature on certain versions of our cars, normally once the brake peddle is pressed it goes out 'means everything is healthy' if it stays on theres a problem somewhere. Quote
swifty Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks Gregers thats a slight weight off my mind and one less prob to sort out. Regards Swifty.. Quote
postmangav Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 I have the same issue. can't find a blown bulb anywhere. will try my brakelights later. :) Quote

Might seem a daft queston at this stage - I also had this problem and couldn't figure out which bulb had gone - then I realised that there are two rear driving lights on each side, one of these had gone - not apparent at first glance that the bulb had failed, but on close inspection the driving light on one side was slightly wider than the other!!!!!
