seanwhu Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Hi I bought a second hand key fob with the same descriptions as the current one. I have read the faqs on programming the fobs but is it as simple as getting a new blade cut and following the guide on the faq ? regards Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 No, the blade must be programed to the Immobiliser. Quote

May be my understanding is wrong but i thought a new blade followed by reprogramming should work, I am correct ?? cheers Quote
adrianf. Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 (edited) Buy a blade (ebay is cheap most of the time) and then get it cut. I had mine cut at Timpsons for about Edited January 4, 2008 by adrianf Quote
NikpV Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 if this is a normal key (not remote central locking) by all means get a blade cut and then if you have 2 working (runs the engine) keys you can program (PATS) the new one, if you havent got those keys then you will have to get Ford to program it (if this doesnt give you 3 working keys then get 2 - if you lose one you can do the reprogramming yourself) if its a remote key then the above applies to getting the PATS sorted out - in addition then you need to program the GEMS system to accept it (you have to program all remote keys at the same time) Quote
adrianf. Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 i hope i didnt confuse anyone with regard to the blade. I forgot that mine is probably different being the VW "flip" style blade so i was able to buy just the blade. Nic, which is pats & which is gems you talk about. When i bought the Ally i only had one key (remote) and no other key at all,I bought a new remote with blade and have programed it to unlock the car but not start it. Am i correct to say that a dealer has to do this for me or can i do it myself. Ive read through tons of posts but still not sure ive found the answers im looking for. Sorry to hijack the subject guys. Adrian. Quote
gregers Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 adrian im in the same situation as yourself m8,and as far as i know you will have to get the key reprogrammed by the dealer or someone who has the software to be able to do it. Quote
skippy 2 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 When i got my gal mk1 I only had one key. It also operated the central locking so I did'nt have a fob. I needed a spare for obvious reasons so I went to frauds. They told me it was difficult key to cut and programme but could be done for about Quote
