I would like to know what Tiptronic means please. I think its like "sports mode" on the gear box but not sure for certain. On my old vauxhall I had a sorts button on the gear stick but my gal doesn't have this. Am I right by using the accelerater more heavily this engages the Tiptronic thingy?

Tiptronic is normally referred to cars having an automatic gearbox but also giving an advantage of using it like a manual gearbox. This is done by moving the lever up and down depending what gear you want and using the accelerator heavily in automatic mode will obviously go down a gear but not whilst in the tiptronic mode. The driver is in full control when to change gear.

Thanks for that saif rehman as I have mentioned somewhere befor when I go up hills I put it in 3rd and this gives me more power instantly to tackle the hill. By doing this is this operting in Tiptronic? and if I put it back to drive does this switch it off? I thought you could drive any automatic through the gears although I have never done this. By dropping the gears manually is there a chance that I could get confused on what mode ime in or by putting it in drive will determine this.

I used to have Tip Tronic in a Shogun i onced owned and thought it was fantastic.

As in a previous post you determine when it changes gear not the car.

I used it when towing the caravan and found it very usefull to make the car hold the gear longer on the hills as i found the Shogun had so much torque and felt it changed down a bit too early

No! a tiptronic gear box is an auto box that has a manual overide selection system, Fords version of this is called select shift transmision, like the jaguar J box, or as in a smart car without the paddle shift, you select the gears by pushing the gear stick back and forth to up or down shift, this system allows manual sequential selection of the gears, in your case skippy you have a bog standard auto with kick down and possible sports mode selected by the way you drive as the box is semi intelegent suposedly?

Thanks guys for clearing that up for me the way you drive it (how muuch boot) does seem to determine how quick the gears change...
