Another Gearbox Problem !

Hi all Happy new year to everyone :P

 

I have a 96 sharan 2.0ltr petrol with a manual gearbox,when i first bought it the gearbox was a little sloppy but after doing 170,000 miles i thought it was normal tbh,

Just recently ive had a few problems and was wondering if anyone knew what can be done to resolve them ?? here we go

 

1.sloppy gearbox just feels loose at gear stick

2.first thing in morning from cold 1st and 2nd can be hard to get into ,no crunching just feels hard to locate

3.right this is the most annoying 3rd gear can be hard to locate sometimes and when you think its in gear it will grunch and grind so you have to locate it into 3rd again and sometimes with the clutch pressed in it jumps out of 3rd and grinds the cogs same when driving aswell starts to grind cogs in 3rd

It MIGHT be the gear selector cables getting stretched/worn?

I take it this is a main dealer part only and i couldnt get one from fraud as its a vdub enginge and box

bigmac,you can get most parts from either v.w,seat or fords as they are virtually the same car,the cables sometimes come up on ebay from time to time.
