lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 hi again all. ok the problem is like this, i took my wife to work and put the window down about 3/4 to give her a kiss and say bye. anyway i pushed the switch for a complete close and it went up about 3 inches and came down again(done it before so not worried) pushed it up again and it wouldnt budge so in my frustration tried down and it went all the way down....then stayed there!! anyway tried the key in the door and all the others work except this one.... 30 mile drive home at -1degree with my window wide open and booster heater not working.. at least it was open road and i could get temp gauge up. anyway going to go take the door card off now... should i be looking at a wiring problem or does this sound different by the way it went up then down then gave up? lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 it seems there may be a wire that has pulled out of the connector, a red and brown one, the only thing is this one was folded back as if it shouldnt of been plugged in?other than that i cannot see any problem wires so am really annoyed now. can anyone tell me what the brown and red wire is for? also where i need to put it back into? stupid cars! lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 great theres a red one out too.. please some of you guys with experience come and help me. Quote
mumof4 Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 got a pic hun, i may be able to help.been a while since i replaced a regulator or fixed a window that wouldnt go up, so i need a pic to go by if you can Quote
lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 i located where them 2 wires go.. and what they are for... the front speaker!!! so back to square one, anyway if i click the switch down then it is working and trying to go down but when i click up, nothing. i guess its not the switch as it wont work on the key either, all the wires look good (apart from the 2 thaat were pulled out) and i guess i did that struggling to get the connector off as i am pretty sure the speaker was working before i attempted this. all i want to do for now is get it up, also if i can at least it might keep me away from macdonalds drive thru's Quote
mumof4 Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 ok, had this on the passenger side in my old gal, would only go down but not up.a small piece of plastic had broken off the switch and got itself wedged, check the switch itself to see if it is intact, and check for any debris. failing that, are there any split wires in the gaitor in the door? Quote
lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 cant see any visible damage to any of the door wires, the switch will make a click when i push it down so the unit is trying to open the window but obviously cant any further so that would make me believe that its not switch related or it would be stuck in 'closed mode all the time and so wouldnt make any noise when moved? just wondering now if there is a way of bypassing everythin and closing the wndow. mumof4 Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 hmmm.., push the gaitor as far back as you can and check to see if anywires have broken all the way in, is there anything on the runners that stop the window going up......can you physically try and move the window up? untitled.bmp check the regulator itself, are all the wires taught and straight, not kinked by the cog things at the top of the runners. lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 i cannot physically move the damn thing. all wires look fine.. i just dont know. Quote
purct Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 i cannot physically move the damn thing. all wires look fine.. i just dont know. Last time this happend to me I found that there was water ingress into the ECU........ Quote
lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 thats only on the mark 1's though isnt it? Quote
mumof4 Posted December 24, 2007 Report Posted December 24, 2007 just wondering if the motor in the regulator is gone., i had a window propped up in the rear with a plank of wood as the motor went and the regulator was taken out.I put a new one in this year. Quote
lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 at the moment i think (hope) its not that, surely if the motor had gone then it would still make a 'click' noise when i pushed the switch up as well as down... however ive got a friend coming over soon with a multimeter and we are going to try and bodge/mess around until we either locate it or at least manage to get it closed until after christmas. what would be really useful would be if anyone actually knew what colour wires are for what in the door? anyway we shall see... ive got too many miles to do tomorrow in the cold with an open window. lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 ok my mate has been, we took the connector off the motor and tried the current, found 12v on up and down, so power getting to the unit.. faulty unit it is. unfortunately the motor is a worm drive and so that stops the window being pushed up. well we managed to manipulate the motor and remove the bolts off it and as soon as that was done we were able to lift the glass and put it in place. anyway going to put something in it to wedge it up and then get a whole new unit in the new year.. at least it wont be drafty on the drive tomorrow. lydanial Posted December 24, 2007 Author Report Posted December 24, 2007 thanks for looking for me, i think i am going to try and get a complete unit with motor and everything, that way i can just drop the window slightly undo clips lift glass and then rip the lot out before just putting the new setup in.
