riversider Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 hi ,i checked my oil the other day and it was dry as a bone ,i put in a bottle of oil which took it just below the min level ,over the past few weeks i have smelt a burning smell when i get out of the car ,could this be part of the problem?I know i should have done something earlier but as i know absolutely nothing about cars i thought i would ignore like some people do with red letters.Shall i top the oil up with another bottle or should i get an oil change done or should i pop into a garage for advice, may i also add that there isn't any oil on my drive so it can't be leaking i have a 98 ford galaxy 2litre. Thanks for any advice Quote
NikpV Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 I would fill it to just below the max and then check on a daily basis to see what is happening. Has it bn servived - if so when ?? Quote
Beyond Help? Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 When you say you can smell burning, is it a hot oil smell? Normally when you can smell hot or burning oil whuren you exit the car it is an oil leak onto a manifold or other hot area. Is your car dropping any oil onto the ground? Quote
riversider Posted December 21, 2007 Author Report Posted December 21, 2007 hiya,i have not had it serviced for about 6 years ,there isn't any oil on the floor or on or around the engine,it looks spotless. The smell was like a rubbery burning smell.Thanks. Quote
