Hi All

New to this Forum.

We bought a new Ford zetec 2.0 TDCi and soon after taking ownership the lights on the dash and the climate control go off and all the dials and driver infomation display goes off and the dials go to zero. It may stay off for a hour or it may turn on two or three times while driving. It does not seem to be worse when warm or vise versa... The dealers have looked on three occasions for the problem but cannot find the cause. These are the only things that go off but it can be annoying especially when going through a lot of speed cameras. We have no indicatior light on the dash or any other warning symbols or buzzer to remind us that we have left the headlights on.

Can anyone help?

Merry Xmas

Sounds like a bad electrical connection somewhere.

It's under warranty so the Dealer is obliged to fix it. Keep onto them, take it to another Dealer if necessary but don't let them fob you off saying they can't find the cause - something is causing it!

Dealers usually resort to changing anything and everything they can to solve the problem (especially when you have to pay). If they can't find the fault suggest to them that they change the instrument panel, fusebox, wiring loom, etc., etc. to see if it cures the fault. It's under warranty so you won't be paying for it! If you're still getting nowhere contact Ford Customer Services. You can't continue putting yourself at risk driving without instruments.

threaten them with the sale of goods act and unless they rectify the problems you will be rejecting the car,do not wait to long to do this iirc you have 28 days to notify them.

Thanks

Sadly it is just over 12 months old.

Any how the story continues. Its been in to the dealers 3 times so far and each time they either cannot fault it or the fault has dissapeared when they connect it to the diagnostic computer. They say they have to put it on the computer and cannot use good old fashioned fault finding. An intersting thing happened the other day when the doors were locked and the lights off you could see the centre console backlights lit this excludes the radio LCD display and the Climate control LCD backlight. Also the "i" information was flashing.

The dealers have also said that another Ford dealership has another Galaxy with the same problem.

Ive found out today that there is a software problem with my `56 Galaxy 2.0tdci ghia , Fords are working on the software now to correct it (power steering on mine is constantly failing ), but it won`t be available til April !

Mention this to them when you take it in , they`ll soon back off , and keep on to them to get it sorted !

Hope this helps...

John
