Nicky Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 On Saturday our galaxy started miss firing, and could hear what we thought was the tappets, when ever we needed to accelerate. We then noticed that someone was flashing us to stop where they told us they could see blue flames and smoke were coming from underneath our vehicle. Hence we did not go any further and called out the AA. They did not know what the problem was so we were towed to our local ford garage They are stripping our vehicle down today and said that they will get back to us to let us know what the problem was. I was just wondering if anyone here has had a simular problem and what it could be? Regards Nicky Quote
mumof4 Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 is it petrol?diesel? model?year? Quote
Smilge Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Nicky ...sounds like you've got one of them new external combustion engines. Blue flames and smoke? I assume this was coming from under the engine? I tell you what would be useful ..... more specific car details. Quote
jkspoff Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Are you sure it wasn't the old problem, with the aux heater again ? These can smoke heavily, but Ford will insist that this is normal. The aux heater is only on the diesel models though, but does sit underneath the middle left (nearside) of the Galaxy etc. Alternatively if its recently had an oil change, or oil added, then it could be spilt oil on the engine/sump burning off. mumof4 Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Heck, have you checked the oil level? they have a tendancy to over fill the buggers. Quote
Nicky Posted December 10, 2007 Author Report Posted December 10, 2007 Yep that was the first thing we did. Although that would not explain why it was misfiring though would it? Regards Nicky Quote
Nicky Posted December 11, 2007 Author Report Posted December 11, 2007 Hi Just an update. It turns out that our clutch was faulty. The fly wheel from the clutch came loose punched a hole in our gear box and damaged the starter motor as well. We had a new clutch fitted in July so fortunately we are under warranty. Apparently all this and the resulting bits floating about in the gearbox confused the computer system hence the engine miss firing. Quote
mumof4 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Bloomin eck, how can a flywheel come loose like that?? and a new clutch this year in a still relatively new car.... Quote
Nicky Posted December 11, 2007 Author Report Posted December 11, 2007 Oh forgot to mention that it was frigged up at Fords a week and a half ago  Regards Nicky Yea sounds like it - good job it's under warranty I think Dave had it sussed, although it could just have been a bit unlucky with the quality of the clutch. I had to have a new clutch in my 130tdi @ 18 months old with 12k, I had poor fuel economy & Fraud told me the computer & techs couldn't find anything wrong, as I have some mechanical knowledge I sudgested the clutch was @ fault as it wasn't performing as it should & with a leanthy battle & me going in to see the manager armed with my log book & keys they changed the clutch & hey presto the fuel ecconomy is now spot on, just goes to show nothing lasts forever.
