Hi all, I have a little problem with my Transmission light (orange engine management light) on the dashboard, it's staying on for some reason.

After driving up the M25 for about 30 miles and thinking to myself that my Galaxy was running very well I stooped of at the shops to pick up a few things.

Got back into the car and started it and the transmission light has stayed on, car is still running well with no problem.

Any one have any idea's as to why it's staying on?

Thanks in advance.

its reported an error fault .( IIRC)

off the top of my head you could just try disconnecting the battery for about 15 mins to see if it goes off.( keycode for radio will be required if you do this) i would try this is if the car itself is running mine.If it doesnt go out then you could take it to an auto electrician to see what error codes are flagged.

My engine management light came on on saturday but ran fine, but that was due to me disturbing a cable when i was taking some road debris out of the engine bay.

Well I tryed disconnecting the battery and the lights gone out and all seems to be fine.

Do you know why this happens and thank you for the very quick response.

Not sure hun, but disconnecting the battery resets things.I had to do it after my oil warning light came on when i was low on oil , i topped it up and it stayed on, after spending nearly a hundred quid on parts and it still hadnt gone out it was suggested that i disconnect the battery..poof..out it went.

Glad it worked for you and your very welcome.

Guess what.......started the car up to go out and the bl**dy light came back on again!

Just taken the battrey lead of to give it a chance to mend it's ways and have a re-think. If it comes back on again, Im going to put the fcuk*ng hammer to it!

Do you have cruise control ?

or are your brake lights not working

these will cause the light to come on

The light comes on when a sufficiently serious fault is logged in the ECU's memory. By disconnecting the battery you are clearing the ECU's memory of fault codes, so the light goes off. The fact that the light is coming on again shows that the fault is occurring again.

If/when the light comes on again you need to have the fault codes read with a suitable diagnostic tool (e.g. VAG-COM) to determine what the problem is.

Vag-Com will not give him any of his greabox or engine codes though as his car is a petrol engined Ford. Most garages use the Snap-On diagnostic box these days and you can get a read-out for under

Thanks for all the comments guys, at the moment all is well again and NO LIGHT wooHoooo. But if it does come back on again I will take it to a friend of mine who has all the kit to see what fault is causing the little bugger to come on.

I will get back to you all in this thread when it does.

Thanks
