Seatdriver Posted November 26, 2007 Report Posted November 26, 2007 The wipers on my 2003 Sharan work 100%, there is no judder, delay in working etc but every so often there is a clunk sound about 2 seconds after they have parked. If I then WD40 all the mechanism joints the clunk goes away! not to return for months. Anyone else experienced similar noises Quote
Beyond Help? Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 It is common, the wiper linkages are pretty poor. You could strip them down and grease them with some copper grease if you were inclined. Quote
Smilge Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Good advice from Beyond Help as you are probably washing away the little grease that's left on the linkage with WD40. Mum of 4 will back me up on that as she's got first hand experience of stripping down the linkage. Quote
chazy Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 had this ball joint problem in September last year did an emergency repair on the m60 in the pouring rain with one of my girls hair bunches (wrapping it round the end of the wiper link) oh drivers side outer link sorry it got us home but didn Quote
badman Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 If it has come so far, that your wipers make a klonk noise, I personally would say that it is too late to fix. sounds like the axel the wiper turns on is too worn. and I wouldnt use coppergrease, as it is not very good for parts that move. use the kind of grease they use for skrews on ships, as it dont wash away...' El Dingo Posted January 27, 2008 Report Posted January 27, 2008 Our wipers were clunking too, especially at the 'down' position (by the scuttle). Also, the wipers would occasionally hit each other on the way up the screen. The cause was that the offside pivot pin was nearly siezed.Disassembled, cleaned, re-greased and re-assembled - the clunk has gone away, and the wipers don't collide any more. :23: Quote
