Scorpiorefugee Posted September 10, 2008 Report Posted September 10, 2008 I have an much abused 110 bhp 98 Gal and the remote has never been much use and I am not much bothered. However, having read through this series of posts I thought I would give it a go. Now, It seems reasonable that the Car is programmed to the remote and not vice versa so the following detail may be of interest. I have 2 Gals, a MKI and a MKII and they both responded to the procedure described by SeatKid with the exception that the door LED on the MKII went into a flash mode after programming a key. The strange thing was that, because the key to the MKI didn't seem to be working, I tried to program the MKII key to open the MKI. This worked well but when I tried to open the MKII it wouldn't work. This seems to disprove the assumption made about the key being programmed. I have since managed, without much trouble, to reprogram both cars or keys and intend to experiment further. The possible cause of the confusion may be that both cars were parked on the same drive even though only one was in programming mode at any time and I need to separate them to be absolutely sure that there is no interaction. If this provides any useful facts I shall provide an update but the only thing that may be really useful is that the same procedure seems to work for versions at least from 98 through to 2007 ish. bodina Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 2. Note: Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. I have a 2001 facelifted Gal 1.9TDI. Will it work using the passenger side door during this procedure(I have a LHD meaning the passenger side is on the right hand side) I am unable to use the keyhole on the driver side as it is stuck due to corrosion. Yes I now. It needs to be taken apart, but I rather do this in my own time....... :D Quote
flapajack Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks seatkid!!! I have been trying to find some definitive instructions on how to re-program my remote fob since I bought the Sharan (1.9 TDI 130) last Nov, one of which seem to be failing to operate. Seen many posts and many suggested solutions but none seem to work until I seen your - works absolutely perfectly. Many thanks, great set of instructions and very clear! flapajack Quote

Lee 7Star Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Having some trouble with coding a key, hope someone can tell me where I am going wrong!! I bought a blank key from ebay with the transponder chip, got the key cut and followedthe coding instructions... The central locking now works fine but the key will not start thecar, it will only start a second or so and then switch off. I also have a non-remote key which does start the car ok, but I would like to have them both working,I am thinking the transponder chip in the "new ebay key" must be fauty as I can't see what else itcould be?? Any help most appreciated, Thx Lee Quote
gregers Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 if you read up on the info in here,it will tell you that if you only have 1 working key then you will not be able to program the pats chip within the new key,its a visit from a decent auto locksmith/dealer to reprogram the new key to your system, congrats on programing your new key to your central locking,as there are a lot of peeps who have trouble doing it. Oh thanks for clearing that up!!, I thought there must be something wrong with the transponder, I didn'trealise the pats system can be so difficult!! Gonna give Raj from Autokey tomorrow to get the key fully programmed:) Quote
gregers Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 let us know exactley what they do,i:e whether they clone your key or actually reprogram it to the pats system,oh and if you dont mind telling us how much it costs?it would be helpful for others in this situationhttp://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif Quote

I don'tsuppose this key would suffice to program the new key with the pats chip would it? Edited June 14, 2010 by Lee 7Star Quote

Steve_Mk1_2.3A Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 I think a lot of people confuse the remote programming with the PATS programming. A new remote key MUST be programmed for PATS - or the car wont start - and then programmed for the remote control to work - that is what dealers do - they do the PATS then the remote - hence the unearthly charge! A key cutter will clone you key to get the PATS code - therefore negating the programming at the car - a dealer will add the key and any others to the PATS system. The key cutter will just clone a working one - which is a cheat but does work! The remote flashing but not sending is common - most tend to be buttons that have failed and yes a lot of money from a dealer to get a new one. Mind you VW do a flip one for £103 that works a treat with the Galaxy ... Regards, Steve Quote
Kevinb Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 I tried this method last night after nearly two years not having a remote fob. No joy even after repeated attempts. Had a chat with the local Ford stealer and was quote over Quote
insanitybeard Posted November 7, 2013 Report Posted November 7, 2013 is there a danger I may erase the PATS from the key?No, because (assuming you are talking about the mark 2 Galaxy) the PATS transponder chip is completely separate to the remote fob circuit board- if you separate the key blade from the fob the PATS chip is glued* into the base of the key blade, it is not in the remote fob at all. Infact, quite often the chip drops out of the blade unnoticed when the key fob is separated causing the vehicle to not start when next attempted! (*-this usually fails over time!) Quote
