I'm thinking of getting a new mondeo in the next few weeks and was wondering what you guys/gals thought of it.

Does anyone drive one of these cars, and if you do how does the smaller engine cope with powering the car, the air con and the power steering? Does it struggle, and if it it, that can't be good for fuel consuption!

What is the new 1.8SCI engine like in the Ghia. It it as responsive as the normal 1.8 (which I have in my current 1995 mondeo).

What is front tyre wear like, especially on the passenger side front?

What is build quality like? Do you get any rattles from the parcel tray?

As Ford have a special offer of 3 years 0% finance plus 3 years free servicing and RAC cover on the Mondeo Ghia and Ghia X, I'm thinking of going for the Ghia hatchback instead of the Zetec, as it will work out costing about the same but I get a better specced car.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I've just bought a Mondeo 04 1.8 Sci Ghia X 6 speed manual saloon & it is fantastic . The engine is smooth , quiet & more than powerful enough to cope with everyday traffic even with aircon on full tilt etc etc . The midrange pickup is superb . Over the last few days of urban running I'm getting 36.8 & that is with an engine having just 547 miles on the clock . Build quality is superb , not a rattle at all & the equipment spec is incredible .

If you can get one get a Mondeo with a 6 speed gearbox . It is apparently made by Getrag & is superb , reminds me of my old RS2000 Mk2 gearbox .

i bought a 2001 zetec spec 1800 on saturday it has the duratec he engine (chain driven) no cam belt to worry about,it is more than adequate in the power department,it was so smooth and quiet i didnt realise i was cruising along at 100 mph without any effort at all,i must say i was pleased with my galagy b4 that but this is a most outstanding vehicle and i thoroughly recommend it.

tyres are expensive(not if in the trade :o ),regular servicing a must and check out for anyrecalls on the car obviously.rear subframe bushes done on mine b4 i got it yipeee.

 :( :D :D

I've just handed back a 2.0 TDCi zetec after having it for two and half weeks courstesy of my local Ford garage.

Loved the car dynamically, plenty of space and refinement but confirmed my personal view about diesels - glad my galaxy is the V6 petrol kiddo!

Generally though, my wife was waiting delivery of her new fiesta hence the loan of the Mondeo - having had the loan car, it really did make us think twice and see if we could come up with some extra cash and get a mondeo but non was forthcoming!!

The fiesta is delvered and it's a great little car but not in the same league as the mondeo.
