Guest Anthony72 Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 The last few weeks the engine cooling fan has been continously running even when the engine is cold. Nothing else seems to be affected as I've not long been on a trip to Nottingham (three hours there and back) and the engine didn't skip a beat.Any ideas what the problem might be?Thanks Quote
Guest ianock Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Is your air-con on,if fitted? Quote
Guest Anthony72 Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 I don't have air con fitted. Quote
Guest mikej100 Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Anthony...An electric cooling fan is normally activated by a coolant temperture sensor which tells the ECU when to start and stop the fan according to what temperture the coolant is at..you'll find it screwed into the top of the thermastat housing, that's what i'd go for first.Hope it helps Mike Quote

MrB Posted February 4, 2004 Report Posted February 4, 2004 I have noticed that my Ghia 2001 also does this if the climate control is turned on - even if the temperature is set to the normal 22 degrees and the outside air temperature is cool. Is this normal ? Quote
Guest ianock Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Rad fan will run with air-con on,supposed to.You should be able to manually turn air-con off,try it & after minute or so fan will switch off.Be careful if you 'bridge' out the temp sensor as controlled by the PCM & you run the risk of blowing it in a second(an ohm meter will do same thing!),did you get yours sorted Anthony? Guest Anthony72 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 ....did you get yours sorted Anthony? Not yet, I haven't had time. I'm hoping to have a look at it this weekend. Quote
Guest looneykeycode Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004  I had this exact problem and I sorted it by swapping the thermostat. Quote
Guest Anthony72 Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 My problem is slightly different. The fan is running continuously from when I first turn the key in the ignition in the morning and throughout the day. It could be the same problem. I still haven't had time to look at it yet. Quote
Guest Anthony72 Posted February 24, 2004 Report Posted February 24, 2004 I had the car fixed this morning. It was a faulty ECU. Quote
