suzuki91 Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 i have looked through the forum but can't see any topics on it, my windscreen washer water is really smelly. it smells like rotten eggs. using the rear washer is more smelly. is there a reason or cure? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 yes it has been mention before! flush out the remaining stale fluid by sticking the hose deep into the washer bottle, then once you have flushed out the old stuff, drain the bottle and then refill with a mild solution of milton leave it to do its stuff then flush through the system to clean out the hose and jets IIRC the main culprit mentioned before was that halfords own washer fluid was the worse offender, both the neat and pre mixed fluids! chromedome Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 I agree, steer clear of the cheapo screen washes. The Milton fluid trick appears to work from the results posted on the forum. I normally use a general usage mix, never had any problems with freezing. If you have a MK2 they have heated washer jets anyway. I normally have to drain the washers after it's been serviced by the dealership, don't know what they use but................ I usually make sure the washer bottle is full before it goes in for service and then challenge them when they try and charge me Quote
sanjsanj Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 How come you can always smell the windscreen washer?? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted November 24, 2007 Report Posted November 24, 2007 because the jets are infront of the intake vents/area near the heater air intake! Quote
sanjsanj Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 but the washer jets are on top of the bonnet and the air intake is underneath. Am i missing something? ;) Quote
mk2vr6 Posted November 25, 2007 Report Posted November 25, 2007 where does the water spray and where does it end up after the wipers haves dumped it at the bottom of the screen? DUH! near the air intake for the heater system? Quote
