Hello to you all.

My Galaxy 1.9td has Automatic Temp Control but the front blower will not work. Not the right time of the year for this! All fuses are OK. The digital display is OK as far as I can see. But I have no current at the front blower or at the red box that is attached to the blower housing which I assume is the resistor. So I think it must be a relay. After delving into levels 1, 2 and 3 of the central fuse box I can not find any relays that might be related to my problem. There are a lot of relays that seem to be missing through some of which are not needed for the 1.9td manual gearbox, but others are so I look for an aux fuse box. I look under the bonnet around by the battery. Nothing. I look under the drivers seat. Nothing except a couple of odd fuses and an empty bracket which looks like a bracket to hold relays but no relays found. Please please can someone help me. Where are these illusive relays??? Out of the 26 relays that are listed in my handbook I have only 11. Out of the 15 that are not to be found at least 5 do not relate to my model. That still leaves a good handful of relays that I just can't find. The rear blower works fine by the way. Thanks for your time in reading about my dilemma. Regards Dave

First thought would be Fuse 22 but if as you say this is ok then maybe Relay 4 I think this also controls the rear blower but may just be poor or burnt out contacts.

Not 100% on this

p.s. can you put your model and year into your signature...I am guessing you have a MK1 ?

Hi Thanks for your comments. Mine is a April 2000 W reg. Sorry for not mentioning that. Relay 4 in my book says it's the seat belt warning tone. that relay is one of the ones that is missing. Fuse 22 is good. Thanks Dave

No. The physical layout of the fuses and relays are the same but a lot of the associated circuits are different. I just need to locate those hidden relays. Edited by montymousey

Yes this is an ongoing problem that I have put up with for a while now. I've tried on the forum in the past but to no avail. I thought that a fresh approach might bring some results. These relays must exist somewhere. Dave

i know that the 1.9TDI i had had a silver box at the back of the engine bay on the right hand side..think it contained fuese or relays, cant remember which.Mine was an early MKII .

Well, when I was modifying my aux booster to run it manually, had to add few extra relays and do rewiring, so I had to make my Climate control unit to start with booster as well as front blower. Looking at ford TIS I've noticed that blowers are controlled electronically, unlike in standard units where they controlled with just resistors, as I wanted to start whole system with just front blower running at slowest speed so it would not draw to much current......so looking at your problem, if everything else is fine, then you just may have electronics related problems! in that case is not as simple as speed control unit maybe gone! To me it would not be to much of the problem as I'm electronics engineer, but if u r not good at it then u may need to repair it somewhere .....

Thats the only thing comes to my mind, but hope will be something much simpler than that, good luck

Thanks for your reply aaronp. If the blowers are electronically controlled does that mean that there are no relays? I'm not an electrical engineer but I am an apprenticed served motor technician with some 40 years behind me. mostly HGV and now I drive them. That's why I'm not too familiar with modern car problems. Do you think this speed control unit would be beyond my reach? I don't even know what it is, or where.

speed control is based on switch mode technology, where motor is controled by pulse, that means no heavy resistors, loss of unused power...

you can find this even in cordless drills...

There is no additional relays for each motor, just fuse ! The actual control unit is next to the blower and control wire in to unit is coming from ATC unit

so u need to check if there is power on blower if no then is there power coming to blower control unit!?

U will need to access your blower in order to find out!

let us know!

I think that I've finally sussed it. I was studying the relays yet again. In my handbook the only relays that are connected with any fan at all are R13 and R19 I assume talking about engine cooling fans. Anyway I took out R19 first and saw that it was a double contact relay so I bridged the two circuits in turn with a jump wire to see what happened and hey presto! my front blower kicked in! So I need a new relay 19 after all that. Thank you to all who took part in my topic. The information from aaronp was especially interesting but I'm glad that I don't need it..........This time!!?

Regard Dave
