Moby 501 Posted November 9, 2007 Report Posted November 9, 2007 Hello 01 Galaxy, no heat front or rear. What i do know is as follows: Aux heater is not working -- but I still should have some heat from what I have read on this excellent site. After run pump is not working -- but again im not sure if this affects the water flow through the front matrix. Temp gauge is getting to mid point and holding fine, no overheating. Sometimes I get a blast of heat but it does not last. I could feel a hiss coming from the expansion tank when the engine is stopped so I changed the cap, still a slight hiss. Controls inside (CC model) seem to be fine I can feel change in the vents when moving between hot and cold. I guess my questions are as follows, I had the timing, water pump done in the summer, could it be that the front matrix is full of air ?If so how do I bleed it ? Does the run on pump affect the heating system in general or is it specifically used for pumping to the back Aux heater ? Could the fact that I have a slight pressure leak in the expansion tank cause enough pressure loss when the engine is running to affect the circulation thus causing reduced flow through the heater matrix ? Sorry for the long thread but Ive tried to give as much info as possible Thanks in advance. Quote
masawa Posted December 6, 2007 Report Posted December 6, 2007 Hi Moby, I'm pretty sure you'll end up changing the glow plug on the heater. Seems to be a general problem with the system.I've read bunches of posts related to the same problem, and just had it myself. The aux heater won't start, no jet-sound, takes a long time to get warm air from the air vents, motor temp lower than usual..... You'll find some posts with tips and tricks in case you want to do the job yourself! Good luck! Masawa '02 Alhambra 1.9TDI, chipped to 140hpRegion: Norway Quote
masawa Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Hi again, Moby, Had to return my Alhambra to teh garage again as I "lost" the heater during the week-end. It turned out that the electric water pump supplying (also) the aux heater was defective. It was replaced, now everything OK. Quote
big_kev Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 What's the weather like in Norway ? Quote
Smilge Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 What's the weather like in Norway ? You should know Kev ...you're nearly on the same Latitude ...lol. Moby ......... Is the tank level changing at all? If you did have a pressure leak then the car would overheat and you mentioned that the temp guage was fine. Sounds like you have an air lock somewhere and really needs a professional to use a pressure rig to get rid of it. Is the thermostat ok? Could be stuck open .... Quote
