Ask the seller who the "main agents" are that are listed under service history. Should give you an indication of where its from.

BTW the interior is awful.

At first glance i thought that was a TR7, so whats the difference between the TR7 and TR8 Kev?

Oh by the way, the Galaxy that started this thread has exchanged hands with both parties leaving each other favourable feedback! (buyer=mug, watch, he'll be here soon crying his eyes out saying that he bought a dodgy or imported Gal!)

I think but am not 100% that it's to do with it having the rover v8 lump fitted :D

the TR8 has a 3.5 V8 dropped into it in an attempt to save the crap reputation the TR7 had! poor build quality and reliability and being under powered they dropped the Rover V8 into it, mainly for the yank market! after all the Rover V8 is a yank engine! not many TR8's were available in the UK most of them went overseas

Going back far too many years i used to work with a chap who imported one back into this country from California.

At the time he was trying to sell it but couldnt give it away

The V8 engine was used in America because of the emmision laws which reduced the power of the 2.0 engine by almost 20%.

No V8's were released in the UK they were in the USA only and hence all cack hand drive.

The TR7 was famous more for its looks and style rather than its performance although on country roads it was superb, just lacked the sheer speed and acceleration for motorways.

Sadly Triumph only released the convertibles late in this cars career which was a pity as there are few of them about, they are stunning.

A true classic that has long outlived it contemporary's.

Like it or loath it........it was a work of art

im sure ive seen a tr8 right hand drive down my way,or was it a stand alone conversion?

now i really liked the look of the tr6.

The TR6 was preferred mainly because it came in a soft top rather than the TR7's hard top.

When the later TR7's came out in hard top people forgot about the TR6.

There were allegedly some TR8's made in right hand drive as demo's, I think a few Dozen but IIRC were never released officially and obviously some may have been converted.

The 2.0 engine was the same as used in the Dolomite Sprint another classic although by most accounts ugly, and had the option of a better 2.0l engine than the TR7.

The TR7 could do 0 to 60mph in just over 9 seconds, the Sprint could do it in around 8.5 with a much higher top speed.

You would expect the sports car to beat the saloon.....strange marketing/engineering decision !

An interesting point is that the soft top was cheaper than the hard top !

wot about the stag then,in my opinion a very sexy looking car, although i do remember it suffered like the rest of the cars of that era,RUST.

your standing up again! most writes of the time when compareing performance between the TR7 and the dolly used the sprint version as a comparison vehicle, the top of the range sprint was a 20ltr 16v twin cam where as the TR7 was only a 8v single cam made for the US market so it was strangled and under powered to meet US immision rules and the fuel shortage at the time!

and the dolly wasnt an ugly car!
