Guest SA Intruder Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 The rear brakes are sat too far from the disc at rest. Have you got brake shudder at the rear? What's possibly happening is the run out on the disc is forcing the pads back slightly, meaning you have to pump them back in. Happens more noticably on rear drum brakes that aren't correctly self-adjusting (like they usually don't). Other possibilities include defective flexi hoses - check carefully. To see which wheel or axle is causing your problem requires you to clamp off the brake at each wheel in turn at the flexi - using the correct tool. Do this in a quiet car park! Then drive round slowly and see if the effect has gone or not. Try each wheel in turn. I suggest that if you are not comfortable doing the above, take it somewhere reputable for a second opinion. Guest Andy Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 maybe front wheel bearing going/gone ,sometimes when you go round corner wheel tilts causing piston to be slightly pushed in hence double pump to re-establish good pedel. As told get second opinion until problem found. <_< :) :) :) Quote
seatkid Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 If the discs are badly worn or scored the pads will take ages to bed in. As (my) rule of thumb I would say change discs every second pad change. Quote
Guest oscar Posted January 31, 2004 Report Posted January 31, 2004 i have put pipe claps on the front and the pedal went hard and fully up. take on of the clamps of and pedal went low again we tried both sides same the pedal goes low so we bleed the brakes yet again and no air @ all. got my mech puzzled fords no help not even give me a quote to even look @ the problem any ideas out there thxs oscar. <_< Quote

Guest oscar Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 well the saga continues i have just taken my new pads out and fitted the old ones back in and pedal all ok back to having the right kind of brakeing power very strange. so it looks like the next step it to fit ford only pads @ Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 You can use VAG pads from Eurocarparts and GSF -they are miles cheaper and original fitment. The Ford ones are just reboxed. Quote
seatkid Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Hang on a mo... arent Rapid Fit part of Ford service network and use genuine Ford parts? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Hmmm... not clear whether RF did the job - just gave their superb advice? Quote
