dipsomaniac Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 i have a 16 pin serial cable (no dongle) which i use with vag-com on my galaxy. it looks just like a std serial cable with a 16 pin socket on the end. has anyone tried using it on any other cars? my oh's 1999 diesel focus has a problem with the central locking and i am wondering if i can use this cable. i will also need to find the appropriate software. dipsomaniac Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 only 20 views all day - what is happening to this site? somebody must have tried using their lead on another car? haven't they? Quote
big_kev Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I think the Fords had a physically different socket. Have you checked the socket on the Focus to see if the lead will actually plug into it? Quote
Octavia L&K Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 My official Vag com Cable, WILL work with Biscuits Galaxy. But it is the Vag PD engine, so unless it is a Vag engine, dont think it will be the same. And it wont do all the functions, i dont think. Chris Quote
dipsomaniac Posted November 4, 2007 Author Report Posted November 4, 2007 thanks for the replies. i haven't tried it yet as i don't know where the socket is - will have to get the tis out. i thought the eu had standardised the 16 pin diagnostic socket? the thing that is confusing me is that my cable was sold as a vag com obd II vw/audi cable. i realise that i need different software but was hoping the cable would be ok. will try it tomorrow. purct Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 No it won't work! well at least it didn't when I tried!!!!! Quote
dipsomaniac Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 when you say it won't work do you mean the cable, vag-com or both? Quote
insider Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Basically the cable won't work. Different pins are used for the different protocols and different interfaces are required too (the circuitry is usually included in the cable). With the appropriate cable it is possible to read some of the different protocols with VAG COM according to Ross Tech. Check their website for further details. Quote
