CM2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I have a 2.8 V6 auto... When I bought the Galaxy it came with no service history (it's rather clean and I got it very cheap so don't laugh!) it's got 92,000 on the clock and next week I'm going to give it a full service of all filters and fluids. I'm after any tips anyone has as to special tools needed, awkward places to get to, how to's etc.I'm a competent DIY mechanic and work in a garage so have acess to ramps and tools. What oil does it take for the engine and rear diff? Can anyone tell me where the fuel filter is located?Anything else I need to know? Lastly, is there a Haynes manual or similar available for this model? Many thanks in advance Mike Quote
dipsomaniac Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 you will need a special tool to remove ht leads as they sit very low in the head and are very ackward to access. you will damage the leads if you try to use long nosed pliers. the cheapest tool (plastic) i found was from vw - Quote
NikpV Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 isn't there a golf haynes manual which covers the V6 engine ? Quote
mk2vr6 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Peter Russek does a manual for the Mk2 Sharan Quote
CM2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Author Report Posted October 27, 2007 Thanks for the input Dipsomaniac, very useful. I wouldn't have known about the HT leads and would have probably damaged them cheers! My own can takes 5w30 and I can get it cheap though work so thats good. Any ideas on the engine oil filling capacity? I'm guessing around 6 litres for a V6 as my V8 takes about 7.5Lastly, any tips for renewing the coolant? My BMW is a pig to bleed after re-filling so is there a bleed screw I should know about? Many thanks once again Mike Quote

dipsomaniac Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 V6....V8.........Have you got shares in a petrol company? does the chancellor allow you to call him darling? engine oil capacity - 5.5L i just removed bottom radiator hose when i replaced radiator. to bleed i ran the engine up to temp with the expansion cap off, topping up as necessary. if there is a bleed screw i haven't found it. KFA Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 I also have just bought a V6 Ghia Galaxy. I have tried to find a Haynes manual for it without success. Will a Volkswagen Golf V6 engine manual have what I need in the way of engine specifications and maintenance interval? KFA Quote
sepulchrave Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I also have just bought a V6 Ghia Galaxy. I have tried to find a Haynes manual for it without success. Will a Volkswagen Golf V6 engine manual have what I need in the way of engine specifications and maintenance interval? KFA You don't need a manual, you need this forum! Since there are no tappets to adjust, cambelts to change or anything vaguely significant to worry about on the VR6 engine at all, then you can treat it like a large mysterious black box!Any problems you may have will be adequately covered in these hallowed pages and will be cooling/electrical related. All you have to do is change the oil and filter regularly, air and pollen filter every now and then, coolant, brake fluid, plugs and fuel filter when you feel like it and anything else when it needs maintenance/replacing. You can't stop the CV joints dying, the thermostat housing splitting, the HT leads failing, the coil pack expiring, the brake discs warping, and all the other faults this vehicle has inbuilt for 'character'. The car will fall apart long before the engine does. Quote
djx Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 the haynes manual number is 3984 it covers everything apart from the v6 engine, so get a vw one for that http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/...1&langId=-1 Quote
