Any Truth In This? Ecu Resetting Techniques

ok i know this may be a strange question but is it possible to reset faults on the ecu just by disconnecting it??

 

i have read that if you disconnect it for 30 seconds (up to an hour)it will lose the fault codes?

 

also seen that you can disconnect the battery over night with the same results.

 

if this is the case would it remove the fault code for a flame out or similar, sill it reset the service due light. (just serviced it and had booked stamped but my mechanic didnt have his vag as its been taken to ireland with one of his partners on a business trip.

VAG to reset the service light, No.

 

Hold down the trip counter and turn on the ignition. Hold trip button until display clears. Works on our two Mk1s.
