Hi all....

Got problem with my Turbo and not having much luck with the garage that fitted my reconditioned one!!!

In March my Turbo decided not to work anymore so I had a recon one fitted.

Ever since I have not been happy with it....although the acceleration is good at 1,800 rpm its crap to say the least below that. I went to the garage and they said that there is nothing wrong with it. But I know my own car!! :D

It has now since started to make a whine sort of noise when accelerating at approx 2,000 rpm.

I have got a guarantee on the turbo for 12mths/12k miles.

I just need some help with telling them what the problem is so that they dont keep fobbing me off.....can anyone help me please? :D :D

i always thought turbos were supposed to make a whine noise but that seems not to be the case, from what my mechanic told me if its whining then there may be a problem coming.

i wouldnt worry about the lag too much get used to it.

youve got a recon turbo and iirc on 2001 onwards models its the same turbo that fits a multitude of cars, so it may not be exactly set up for your car and will probably not be able to be either.

i think my turbo used to cut in at about 1400, but since having a new turbo fitted it seems to be closer to the 2000 mark, this can be annoying when pulling out of junctions using 2nd from a slow roll but you just have to adapt.

Have a look at the above post gents paying particular attention to the VNT mechanism. This is controlled by the Boost Control Solenoid (N75 valve). Check the rubber pipes from the solenoid to the VNT diaphragm and also to a fuel type filter at the end of another one of these pipes. The filter is located on the drivers side bulkhead behind the MAF area. Turbo's should not whine and if they do it's more than likely indicating a potential bearing failure. The turbo should kick in at 1300 RPM.
