tiny Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 the speedo had just stopped working the day before we bought it That sounds rather dodgy! Quote
Rallim Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 There is a topic elsewhere about an intermittent speedo, the advice was to check the sensor. My speedo has stopped a couple of times recently so I want to check my sensor but I can't find it, looked in the TIS and ELSAWIN but have been unable to find its location. I'm not so sure of the dodgy earth being the problem unless its at the sensor or a short to ground in the signal wire. If the instrument binnacle itself had a dodgy earth you'd expect all the dials to stop and displays to turn off. Gordon. Quote
big_kev Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Normally the sensor is on the gearbox, probably at the front. Should be obvious as there will not be any other electrical connections to the gearbox. The above only applies to the manual gearboxes.....autos are different. Quote

si.miller Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 I thought it would be a sensor, especially as it does flicker on every now and again so its working to some extent, and hadnt even considered anything else it until my son came home after taking it for the diagnostics and the guy had told him its a faulty earth apparantly he has owned one himself that had that problem.I cant find any other topics about speedo problems. can any one direct me to it please. That sounds rather dodgy!I agree but we do have fsh and all paperwork that looks genuine as far as we can tell up to July this year, when it was MOT'd and it must have been working then as the mileage is up since the mot. also the interior has no sign of any unusual wear.I know these things can happen we had some electrical component go on my sons rs2000 the day people travelled from Wales to look at it and the damed thing wouldnt start when they arrived Quote

The cruise control is also not working. The good news is that it is not a complete failure as the warning lights are still working. The unbelievable thing is that one of the rear passenger windows is not working, on the passenger side. I am the third member i know of to experience the same problem. There must be a link or a wiring problem behind the window control buttons causing an earth spike which in turn effects the speedo. When i press the window heating buttons, the digital display flickers. Beneath these buttons are the rear window controls. Am I starting to find the link to the problem. I have the same car, the same year as well. did you solve the problem and if so, HOW Please reply with any solutions or ideas, it's driving me crazy. Quote

TJB Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 hi guys, I have a 02 galaxy 1.9 tdi with much the same problem, the speedo and fuel gauge stop and start intermittently but when i turn the parking lights on and drive the car they work perfectly, I also have a dodgy passenger side electric window! Looking forward to any help. T.J Quote
suzuki91 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 it may not be the same, but watch dog just reported failing speedos on the focus. one fix that worked is to spray the circit board with WD40 dry and replace. Quote
