I know that my 2002 MkII TDi has a VW 6speed box - but the parts are still cheaper from Ford than from VW even though the Ford box contains VW parts .... How? Why? Who knows but I'm happier its that way than the other.

As the OP has a; ''96 1.9 TDI 90hp GLX (1Z Engine)' TIS informs us of the following:

"From the third quarter of 1995 the new Ford Galaxy will be progressivly introduced into all markets. The principal features of the Ford Galaxy are as follows:

-- 2,0 l DOHC (Ford), 2,8 l V6 (VW) petrol engines and 1,9 l TDI (VW) diesel engine.

-- VXT-75, 5 speed manual transmission (Ford).

-- AG4, 4 speed automatic transmission (VW).

The VXT 75 transmission used in the Galaxy is based on the well-known MTX 75 transmission."

The MTX 75 gearbox was standard fit in Escorts and Mondeos.

Torque-ing of gearboxes :( I have a noisy box between 1000-2000rpm. Always been there. Not changed over last 18 months 30k.

Thought it might be clutch release bearing myself, a mech rekoned it would be clutch thrash.

Me, like an idiot, didn't ask what that meant.

Can anyone suggest anything.

You missed of the 2.3l Ford Engine....available with both gearboxes.

And the 2.8V6 with the 4-wheel drive....gearbox....which I have little info. about.

And the Mk1's did have an Auto for the 1.9 Diesel...later models with AFN/AVG engines.

Sorry Kev

Your are right, I think the 1.9 D engine only had auto, very late on, Mk1 something like late 99- to 2000

Forgot all about the 2.3, it's been a long time since I was involved with the old Galaxy. Sorry for any confusion!
